writers changed. Alan Ball is no longer the show runner and they are no longer following the books AT ALL. the TV show can now be officially considered fan-fiction since it isn't even loosely following the books like before

I'll give this season a chance for a few episodes. The way the ended last season they couldn't just very well abandon those plot lines without a little handwave after all.
It could be a good thing that the writers changed. They managed to take half the characters and make them grating and annoying last season. Tara as a Vampire could be amazing if done right. If done wrong its just going to be her being uppity and showing her titties a lot. (haven't seen episode yet, will see it tonight)

Watched this last night, and I was bored the entire time. I thought it was just me. I will keep watching, but damn, it didn't feel like a season opener in the slightest.

Just finished, I stand by my earlier statement. This was just necessary plotkai to tie up the series of threads left dangling at the end of S4. Tara is going to be pissed as hell about being a vamp and navel gaze the entire season.
