MarlinPie... I don't even know what to say. What can be said? Combovideoing in a tournament? Ye gods.

TBH, he's not doing anything exceptionally crazy (even if it does look damn awesome as hell). Just acting outside of the box instead of simply watching/copying offa Youtube. It comes with the total mastery of how the basic attacks works, hit/hurt boxes, aerial mechanics, spacing, etc. In this case, he took advantage of the hitstun deterioration in a certain way.
Such is the evolution of the game, certain people go beyond simply copying offa others or going outside of the norm of a character to do amazing stuff. I still hope more people besides Cho comes up and does some nice things with Strider, my mind is so limited with the character and he has Zero-like potential within him.
Other people like Desk fully break down the game into maths to do crazy shit. That and hacking.
I was just glad ChrisG didn't win.
I'd probably be 30X better if I could figure out how hitstun deterioration works in this version. My Taskmaster is doing ass damage (without supers) because I can't get nearly as long of combos as I used to without abusing multiple OTG assists. Its getting hard to make custom combos aside from working on Sharp Sting >> J. H. Arrow >> assist >> combo combos.
It's a lot easier to do with exchange combos than with normal combos since they don't have any hitstun deterioration.
After that, all you really need to know is how to keep it going by using flight mode, air dashes and (once you're out of flight/double jumps) moves that keep you from falling (ie. Plasma Beam, Rocket Punch, Lightning Sphere, etc.) as long as possible.
Ah yes, forgot to add about that. The way he landed the combo, he used up dash and the hand laser within the loop, and even used doom rocks towards the ground to keep it going before sphere flame. That only comes with simply knowing how each move works, including all normals, be it a shitty normal or not. I'm certain he put in plenty hours of lab time trying out everything.
Aside from that MarlinPie actually has something in common with players like Fanatiq, Mike Ross, MastaCJ, DemonHyo, Desk and a number of others. They've all played or still play music instruments to this day. It allows for them to not only know about repetition and dexterity in playing, but gives their brains more synapses to understand the speed of their button taps. In that respect, I'm pretty damn jealous, lol.
This basically.
Hmm, I think I might have found a bug (or a really weird design feature, if it's intentional).
Go into training mode, do an up or side exchange into a character with an air dash and flight mode, then air dash up. Now do the same thing, but fly before air dashing. If you exchange up, then fly, then air dash up, your dash doesn't actually make you go up. You even get the animation, but you just don't move up any further, even if you're well below the stage height limit. You can see it even more easily by air dashing up-forward: you just move directly forward (despite the fact that you can go up higher by just exchanging up again).
Someone try this in the lab and tell me I'm not crazy here. It seems like a really weird limitation to have in the game if it's intentional.
There's been a pretty strict fly height restriction since vanilla, pretty sure it's not just dashes. It's in place to stop characters like Storm/Trish/Modok from getting higher than SJ height and staying there. It's dumb that it still happens coming off an up exchange, but it's definitely intentional.
More Doom tech!
1M for 1 assist and 1 bar. <3 Doom. WE IN THERE
Edit: So I thought I had figured out doom TACs. Then I found these. Back to the lab I go
Those fucking Strang/Dorm combos...holy fuck thats sexy
