    Changes to Gear Dyeing

    * The following changes are planned for patch 1.20.
    * All features are under development and subject to change.

Gear dyeing will change in patch 1.20.

Dyeing an item with the new recipes implemented in patch 1.19 would not only change its color; the item’s attributes and equipping requirements would also be affected. This essentially rendered players unable to dye gear to their liking. Patch 1.20 will enable players to dye gear without changing its attributes. New recipes will also be implemented that will allow you to voluntarily add attributes to items independent of color.
    * The above change is inspired by player suggestions.

The following revisions will be applied based on changes in gear attributes as a result of dyeing:
Items with a single variant: item attributes and equipping requirements will be unified.
Items with multiple variants: items with different attributes will be renamed, and new color variations added.
    * Exceptions exist.

    Items with a Single Variant

    Example:
    <Patch 1.19>
    Cotton Acton
Requires: Disciplines of War or Magic
    HP: +32 Dyeing

    → Cotton Acton (Brown)
    Requires: Discipline of War
    HP: +32 MP: +32
    * Color, equipping requirements, and attributes have changed as a result of dyeing.

    <Patch 1.20>
    Cotton Acton
Requires: Disciplines of War or Magic
    HP: +32 Dyeing

    → Cotton Acton (Brown)
Requires: Disciplines of War or Magic
    HP: +32
    * Only color has changed as a result of dyeing.

    Items with Multiple Variants

    Example:
    <Patch 1.19>
    Felt Robe
    Suits: All Classes
MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8 Dyeing

    → Felt Robe (Red)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    Mind: +6
    Felt Robe (Green)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    Attack Magic Potency:+8
    * Attributes differ according to color.

    <Patch 1.20>
    Dyeing Only
    Felt Robe
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    Dyeing

    → Felt Robe (Red)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    * Although the name is the same as the Felt Robe, the actual item itself is different.

    Felt Robe (Green)
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54 Magic Evasion: +8
    * Only color has changed as a result of dyeing.

    Adding Color/Attributes with New Recipes
    Felt Robe
    Suits: All Classes
    MP: +54
    Magic Evasion: +8 Synthesis

→ Felt Robe (increases Attack Magic Potency)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic

    Attack Magic Potency:+8
    Magic Evasion: +8
Felt Robe (increases Attack Magic Potency) (Green)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic
    MP: +54
    Attack Magic Potency: +8
    Magic Evasion: +8
    Felt Robe (increases Mind)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic
    MP: +54
    Magic Evasion: +8
    Mind: +6 Dyeing

→ Felt Robe (increases Mind) (Red)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic
    MP: +54
    Mind: +6
    Magic Evasion: +8
    Felt Robe (increases Mind) (Green)
    Requires: Discipline of Magic
    MP: +54
    Mind: +6
    Magic Evasion: +8

    * The above equipment names are tentative.
    A Word of Caution

Due to the game's data structure, it is not possible at present to dye an item more than once. After Version 2.0, however, players will be able to dye an item multiple times.

This is all nice and good but I cringe thinking what an AH would look like when there are items available in every color, and then with various stats. All of a sudden 1 item turns into 40. What a nightmare to organize and/or sift through.

    For example:

    Felt Robe
    Felt Robe (Brown)
    Felt Robe (Green)
    Felt Robe (Red)
    Felt Robe (Red) w/ HP
    Felt Robe (Red) w/ MP
    Felt Robe (Brown) w/ HP
    Felt Robe (Brown) w/ MP
    Felt Robe (Green) w/ HP
    Felt Robe (Green) w/ MP

That's my general issue to, more complicated than it should be. And more item colors/combos to look through in the wards is going to suck.

Now I need my gear remade... again.

Well that's why the new AH needs a text-based search and filters for colors and attributes. We should never shoot down systems or ideas (dyes, materias, etc) just because the current AH has a lot of limitations: the AH is what should get adjusted.

Everything's gonna be messy until 2.0. Let's hope the new market system is designed with all these things in mind.

This is why I hope to god the AH comes sooner than later. I'd love to have a system where I can query on things such as slot, stats, favor/requires, etc.

EDIT: Noticed they said more color variants. Here's to hoping I can put Cobalt in something other than red. Black Cobalt FTW.

So what happens to the Felt Trousers (Red) in the wild when 1.20 when? Are they converted into Felt Trousers (Increases STR) (Red)?

I hope the part with "items with different attributes will get renamed" means more than actually Felt Robe (increases Attack Magic Potency) (Red) >.<

    I'm just expecting a Diablo-esque naming scheme.

Felt Robe + HP = Felt Robe of Life
Felt Robe + MP = Felt Robe of Spirit
Felt Robe + INT = Felt Robe of Intellect
Felt Robe + DEX = Felt Robe of Precision
Felt Robe + VIT = Felt Robe of Solidity

...or some shit like that. They could just have a name for each general stat addition and tack it on to the end of the item's name. Then toss the (Color).

More like hidden complications coming to the limelight. They hid all this gear through colors and now that they want to change it so all gear can have colors changes and now they got all this gear they need to rename suddenly.

I agree with the idea of changing the name to signify an 'idea' of what the alteration is rather then the bracket and in your face approach they have now. It gives more identity to the item as something different while not being named differently to everything else on the market.

If they weren't total dicks they'd convert current colored gear into the enhanced, colored version with the update, but we know that won't happen.

It's probably either gonna be dated gear all over again or our current colored gear will just remain as it is minus any bonuses and in all likelihood won't be viable to synth the added stats onto, aka worthless.

    Goddamnit.

Edit: hope nobody spent too much gil on materia...

I don't see them putting dated on things. Pretty sure Yoshida posted somewhere that he wasn't going to make things dated again. I see them making the current items into the base state. Then dying / giving bonuses will be able to be applied even to materia equipped gear. Maybe I'm being too hopeful tho.

Question is did he mean it literally or figuratively.

Colored items lose their stats and in all likelihood can't be enhanced, they're just updated to the current version of a red [such and such] that wasn't enhanced before it was dyed, "dated" isn't in front of the name but they're useless all the same.

    vs

Items retain their color and stats, and are updated to the enhanced, dyed versions.

The site shows going from the base state to the enhanced state requiring synthesis (dyeing probably will too) and I don't see them suddenly allowing materia to remain in the item.

I was more meaning in the process of dying they would keep materia, not enhancing, I could have been more clear. Dying I'm assuming isn't another synth in this case.

I don't see why they would do otherwise. You effectively have two choices:

    a) convert all Felt Trousers (Red) to Felt Trousers of Strength (Red) and anger a small number of people who want their Felt Trousers of Strength to be blue now
    b) convert all Felt Trousers (Red) to Felt Trousers (unbuffed, undyed) and anger the large number of people who bought the pants because of the STR and didn't give a damn about the color

The people in group a) have no serious argument. You signed up for red +STR trousers, so red +STR trousers is what you gets.
The people in group b) would have a legitimate gripe, particularly if they blew up a lot of stuff getting a double- or triple-melded pair.

P.S. I strongly doubt dyed items will keep materia. It's almost certainly going to use the existing synthesis system, thereby making it a "new synth" in every respect that matters. Unless you think the dye system will be like repairing or melding?
