    Pixar's BRAVE

    Trailer on youtube (HD)

    Official Site

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.
Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
    IMDB's Summary

Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.
Can't be worse than Cars 2. Good writing team behind it, too.

tempting!! I usually try to stay away from all sorts of Pixar previews so I can be as ignorant as possible when seeing the film, thus (in theory) keeping my excitement level high.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Weird that it feels more like a Dreamworks film, than a pixar one.

They haven't let me down yet though so I'll definitely go see it.

I got that feeling too. I think Disney likes the Dreamworks-esque animation. They did it with Tangled, now I guess they want Pixar to do it better?

Either way, I love Pixar so I'm seeing this regardless.

Will definitely be seeing this. For me, Dreamworks movies beat Pixar ones hands down simply because of the settings/subject matter each one tends to stick to - Pixar's got way too many cars/robots for my taste. Brave does look more like a Dreamworks movie, and the setting is a rare one; not every day you see a major movie set in Scotland that isn't Braveheart.

    ...Brave... >_>

Anyway! Woman empowerment stories are few and far between as well. Usually a man ends up being the overall hero of the story even if he is helped by a woman.
Archery and horses are fucking awesome. :D

looks interesting but the trailer was so disjointed. it makes it seem like the point of the film is for her to win a contest. all the random cuts didn't help to hint at the story either. although people will 'get' the gist of what is happening.

Looks awesome. Not really hard to understand what's going on in the trailer imo.

I don't think there's been a decent female main character since Mulan.

Thats only because the "animated" movies always trend more towards girls and Disney would rather make every girl a princess than someone necessarily strong in their own right. Disney tends to stick to their successful paradigms. ie take a cute teenage girl (or three) mix in some music and capitalize on their "sex appeal" until they can't be on their tween show anymore. Or "let Pixard do what they do" or "make a cartoon where someone saves the princess so we can make more princess merchandise and sell it to little girls and make more money than the actual movie".

All in all, Brave looks to be what Pixar needs after making their first "bad" film. While Cars2 wasn't horrible, it just was like they didn't care and pushed out a sequel just for the extra dough. Seems to be a trend cough*Cataclysm*cough*Blizzard*cough
