Saw this on Sat, really liked it. I'd say 8/10 easy. Loved the characters, the action, the twist in story etc. Really enjoyed seeing a whole new Pixar movie rather than just #3 or #2 of a previous film.

Also "La Luna" was an adorable short.

It wasn't their best movie, but it was definitely good. I will say though, it felt really short. Maybe if it was a bit longer, there could have been a bit more fleshing out of some of the characters. And I agree with Rulke, La Luna was amazing -- possibly one of their best shorts.

    Spoiler: show
I mean, we had a lot between her and her mom, and I suppose they were really the main focus.. but none of the other characters had a lot of depth, imo.. Admittedly, this is partially cause her dad was awesome and I wanted to see more of him (and possibly more interaction between them).

I thoroughly enjoyed it, but yes Pixar has lacked something recently. The character development, I love Pixar and would wish I could work for them. But yea there could have definitely been a lot more. The relationship between Merida and her father, it seems this movie was modeled after the Sword in the Stone. Even with the matron more could have been done. If you watch Mark Andrews' lectures on storytelling he is definitely more of a get to the point guy. But that's what Pixar is great at and need to realize it. From the first 8 minutes in Up, to the emotion in Toy Story 3.

Their short films now are having more of an impact than the actual movies. La Luna was very sweet and you don't need to actually need to have dialogue to tell the story.

I still loved Brave it was visually beautiful but they need to get back to story and make us care about those characters. It's really unfortunate because they do have brilliant writers that know exactly how to do that.

Comparison between TS3 and Brave -- don't click if you haven't seen Brave.
    Spoiler: show
When I think back to Toy Story 3 and compare it to Brave, one thing for me was the sheer emotional impact. Not just because I was one of those people who saw it in theaters as a kid back when the first came out, but because they did such a phenomenal job of portraying the bond between the toys. Even now, I still get teared up when I watch the scene in the junkyard when they are headed towards the furnace. I remember at the time freaking out because it was such an emotional scene and I honestly didn't know if they were going to make it out of there. I know its a Pixar movie, but at the time, that fact completely slipped my mind. With Brave, there was never a moment when I felt her mom wasn't going to turn back into a human. Even at the end when it seemed the spell had become permanent, it felt like one of those predictable, last second resolutions was coming up -- which is exactly what happened. The story just didn't draw me in to forget everything else like Toy Story 3. Now, admittedly, Toy Story 3 had a major advantage given it had two previous movies and all the years in between to build up my investment in the characters and story..

I've talked to a few people who didn't see Toy Story as a kid, and most of them were not impressed by 3, so you're not alone. Also I hear people who don't have hearts didn't it..

Pixar's best movies don't feature human beings as their main characters.

I saw toy story as a kid, loved UP and Wall-E but didn't like TS3 much at all. I didn't play much with toys when I was young so maybe that takes some of the magic or nostalgia out of it.

I liked the original TS. I forget what happened in TS2 but I think I liked it. TS3 just didn't do it for me. I LOVED UP. It's probably one of my favorites. Wall-E did nothing for me. I thought overall it was kind of dull.

Wall-E started slow but ended up being a beautiful story of things unsaid.
The first 5 minutes of Up make me cry every time. Every. Fucking. Time.

I still haven't seen Up and my girlfriend refuses to rewatch the first minutes of the movie because it's that sad.

1 Toy Story - Loved it
    2 A Bug's Life - Liked it
    3 Toy Story 2 - Loved it
4 Monsters, Inc. - Enjoyed it
5 Finding Nemo - Enjoyed it
6 The Incredibles - Loved it
    7 Cars - Yawn.
8 Ratatouille - Saw some of it and it never interested me
9 WALL-E - Still trying to watch it
    10 Up - Loved it
    11 Toy Story 3 - Loved it
12 Cars 2 - Refused to watch it
13 Brave - Enjoyed it and wanted more.

I'm a Character Animator and Pixar was always a first choice to work out and then Disney, followed by Dreamworks and Blue Sky. But now I've been leaning more towards Weta and Blue Sky because their stories have gotten a lot better. Pixar has gotten cocky, and well they have every right to be, but they are still a very young company as far as movies go so of course they all won't be amazing. But this whole movie lacked something, and it was almost there almost there to be an epic Pixar movie that would've blown everybody away. From the new rendering and detailing to their beautiful animation, but they fell flat on their whole story.

Saw Brave over the weekend and liked it strongly. The plot was kind of predictable, but with enough twists and genre awareness to throw me off just enough. Plus I loved that it was a Disney princess film without a love interest at all. I also loved that they didn't keep Queen Elinor an overbearing bitch like I was kind of fearing at the start.

I've liked or loved every Pixar film I've ever seen. I had to watch Toy Story for a mid term in college. I got an A+ :D (I was a screenwriting major).

I think the bear(forgot his name) could have used more fleshing out. We could have seen the story of the kingdom's fall carved out possibly by what appears to be claws that the mother helps translate before they come to the realization concerning the identity of it. And when he's defeated we see a freakin ghost. Why didn't any of the people there appear to notice it. Why was the guy so calm when he was freed from being a bear after centuries? He was supposed to be arrogant and foolhardy. when did he have time to learn his lesson despite permanently being a bear? They see proof that magic exists and they're completely calm.
The will-o-wisps were weird as well since the first thing I remembered when i saw them on screen was you don't follow them because they're luring you to your horrifying death. It was just so weird hearing the characters being ok with them.

That witch also needed to deliver the furniture that was bought before the end as well.It would have been a nice touch.
In retrospect the biggest problem was there was no real antagonist. Sure the demon bear was there but he only had presence at the start a tiny section of the middle and at the very end.The queen becoming more bearlike wasn't explored much although I suppose it counts.Maybe if the willowisps had hints of being more malevolent?

I know right? There was so much more cool stuff that needed to be in there. Well that was in there that needed to be in there a lot longer. They had the budget and it was marketed as such a fantasy mystical film, fell flat.
