    Level Cap Increase (11/17/2011)

    A new thread has been created in the Updates section of the official forums:

    [dev1042] Level Cap Increase

    The maximum job level for player characters will be increased to 99.

    Completion of a new limit break quest is required to unlock levels 96 and above.

    The following new job abilities will be introduced:
    Summoner

    Fenrir: Heavenward Howl (Lv. 96)
    Grants the effect of HP Drain or MP Drain to party members within area of effect.

    Diabolos: Pavor Nocturnus (Lv. 98)
    Lures an enemy into an eternal nightmare.

    Corsair

    Avenger's Roll (Lv. 97)
    Increases chance of countering for party members within area of effect. Lucky Number: 4. Unlucky Number: 8.
    The following magic spells will be introduced:

    White Magic

    Cura III (WHM Lv.96)
    Restores HP for party members within area of effect. Afflatus Misery: Increases healing potency.

    Boost-INT (WHM Lv.96)
    Enhances Intelligence for party members within area of effect.

    Boost-DEX (WHM Lv.99)
    Enhances Dexterity for party members within area of effect.

    Gain-INT (RDM Lv.96)
    Enhances Intelligence.

    Gain-DEX (RDM Lv.99)
    Enhances Dexterity.

    Regen V (SCH Lv.99)
    Gradually restores target's HP.

    Black Magic

    Thundaja (BLM Lv.96)
    Deals thunder damage to enemies within area of effect. Successive use enhances spell potency.

    Gravity II (RDM Lv. 98)
    Weighs an enemy down and lowers its movement speed.

    Songs

    Lightning Carol II (BRD Lv.96)
    Increases resistance against lightning and sometimes nullifies lightning damage for party members within area of effect.

    Light Carol II (BRD Lv.99)
    Increases resistance against light and sometimes nullifies light damage for party members within area of effect.

    Dark Carol II (BRD Lv.99)
    Increases resistance against darkness and sometimes nullifies darkness damage for party members within area of effect.

    The following spells will become available to new jobs:

    White Magic
    Holy II (PLD Lv.99)

    Black Magic
    Thunder III (DRK Lv.96)
    Thunder V (SCH Lv.99)

    The following new learnable spells will be added for blue mages:

    Quadrastrike
    Delivers a fourfold attack. Chance of critical hit varies with TP.

    Vapor Spray
    Deals water breath damage to enemies within a fan-shaped area originating from the caster. Additional effect: Poison.

    Thunder Breath
    Deals thunder breath damage to enemies within a fan-shaped area originating from the caster.

    Orcish Counterstance
    Increases the caster's chance of countering.

    Amorphic Spikes
    Delivers a fivefold attack. Damage varies with TP.

    Wind Breath
    Deals wind breath damage to enemies within a fan-shaped area originating from the caster.

    Barbed Crescent
    Damage varies with TP. Additional effect: Accuracy Down.

    Spells castable only while under the effect of Unbridled Learning:

    Absolute Terror
    Freezes target in fear.

    Gates of Hades
    Deals fire damage to enemies within area of effect. Additional effect: Burn.

    Tourbillion
    Delivers an area attack. Additional effect duration varies with TP. Additional effect: Weakens defense.

    Pyric Bulwark
    Resists physical damage.

    Bilgestorm
    Delivers an area attack. Additional effect duration varies with TP. Additional effect: Lowers attack, defense, and accuracy.

    Bloodrake
    Delivers a threefold attack. Damage varies with TP. Additional effect: HP Drain.

    Beastmasters will be able to call four new familiars with the Call Beast ability.

    Only Thunder III for DRK is slightly disappointing. Something like Terror or Plague would have been nice. And let's face it, Terror would be 1-2 second duration and wouldn't land for shit on tougher stuff so wouldn't be broken.

    Or maybe an Absorb-All which could be like +12 to all base stats (i.e worse than normal absorbs) and 66 MP (so double normal cost).


    Although I suppose we did get an extremely nice spell lats update so we can't really complain.


    EDIT: Also, no Meteor for BLM? I suppose only getting Thundaja from 95 > 99 gives them more grounds to complain than DRKs!

    Don't worry though, when they decide to raise the level cap to 125, it'll be the first spell you get!

    We already have that; it's called "Nightmare" unless this is a powered up version of that or something.
    I'm guessing it's an instant kill move that's going to blow ass like Odin.

    No new JAs for any melee jobs. No weaponskill announcements. No Meteor. This is very preliminary. They're mostly just announcing what we could already see from the .dats.

    That Genbu looks a bit redux'd or is it actually that big? Otherwise it would make sense, as it's a familiar afterall.

    For the Diabolos BP, from the way it's worded, sounds like it could be doom, since doom can be considered luring a enemy into death.

    Edit: also noticed araise was not included in the new magic and neither was sch getting aspir II

    So SMN gets a buff we probably won't ever use and an ability that most likely will miss on anything worthwhile?
    I hope this list is incomplete otherwise most of the jobs won't get anything from the cap increase.

    Player Nightmare doesn't keep enemies asleep while being hit.

    Keeps them asleep under DoT, but not direct damage, yeah.

    I think Diabolos' BP might just be supersleep. It probably isnt doom, because something instant-kill spammable on a 45-60s timer would be entirely useless..
    after all, the player version of Nightmare isn't supersleep but a toned down version that only prevents DoT from waking mobs up.

    Supersleep would be very useful.. but only if it lands, and only if the mobs can be slept... Great for regular mobs I suppose.. probably useless on NMs.

    edit: if its pure supersleep that cannot be woken by dmg ever, then a party of smns could easily do a sleeplock rotation on mobs/nms susceptible to sleep. however, this is probably unlikely. mobs will probably have a chance of being woken up by physical attacks or crit hits or something.

    I think I'm just pissed off that we'll still be using Predator Claws and Heavenly Strike at 99. I guess coming up with new damaging abilities is way too hard.
