Issue with wireless and HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop

Sister in Law gave me a laptop because she can't connect to the internet on it. I am almost certain I know the cause but would like some input.

From what I can find on the HP site, they don't even offer drivers for Windows 7, they stop at Vista 64bit. Now the laptop must have had 7 Ultimate installed by her husband and the onboard card obviously doesnt have drivers = doesnt work.

However when I plug in my Netgear Dual Band USB adapter, I still can't connect to any wireless signal and each time I try to start up the netgear wizard to look for active connections it just closes out the window on me. This part i'm having trouble understanding, is there something i'm missing?

If all else fails there is an HP recovery partition on the laptop, but since they installed windows 7 over vista, the recovery software from HP is no longer on the laptop, how do I get at it? I've never dealt with recovery partitions w/o the software given by the manufacturer.

I'm currently doing a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate and found some Windows 7 drivers online from a blog, so hopefully they all check out, but any input would be appreciated.

Nevermind, disregard this as apparently through more research I found that a plethora of HP pavillion laptops all had major catastrophic defects and issues with them, which is why there is a class action lawsuit on going or something, oh well...guess I can use it as a storage device, sell it on Craiglist, or tear it apart and tinker.

Such as getting as hot as the sun

There's a thread with a bios patch for dv6000 / dv9000 that might fix the wifi issue you're having for Windows 7. There's 16 pages of stuff, so if the fix doesn't work, search around a bit and you might get up and running.

I'll poke around the thread and see what I can come up with, and if not id be open to selling it to you most likely as id only use it for a backup storage device.

lol, just turned the thing on to do what you said Cheerios and the thing finds the network and connects perfectly, last night I had used some Win7 drivers from another site and flashed the bios, but it didnt do anything so I figured I was SOL, even after a reboot it didnt seem to want to work but...oh well.

Best part is the guy my sister in law talked to at Best Buy said her only bet was to buy an entire new 1500$ laptop or get a new motherboard, I'm sure he suggested diamond HDMI cables as well.

So it worked before you even flashed the bios, or afterwards?

Yeah before I even flashed it from your link. I had flashed the bios previously with another driver last night and after a reboot it showed nothing had changed, still couldnt connect or even attempt. Now today it worked fine soooo not really sure.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it's gone again lol, fucking fantastic. No idea why it's coming up and then going away. Going to try to use the recovery partition, but the HP software is gone from the laptop and it won't let me access the partition from a boot, so im downloading Kubuntu and going to see if I can find the recovery partition that way.

Search for some torrents for DV6000 recovery discs. I did that with dell latitude laptops and got torrents for their recovery discs fine that way. You'll still need the serial for Windows, though.

P.S Just an info to add, on about 90% of the PC/Laptop, Windows Vista drivers will work on W7

So after a lot of fiddling, it seems that reverting the laptop to Windows XP 32bit, and using the drivers from another laptop has worked in letting the laptop access the wireless network now, i'm curious to see if going back to Vista, what it came with installed apparently, and using those drivers would achieve the same result or start the process over again, I may try it since I have nothing better to do.
