By that same token, they asked her to write a got damn apology letter after the fact. It's not like they asked her to do 20 hours of community service. They didn't even say they were going to punish her if she didn't write the letter. If anything it was an implied but empty demand. It was stupid of the govenor's staff to get worked up over a tweet but you guys are acting like they forced the chick to walk the plank.

If anything, the chick should be apologizing to her friends for getting caught in a lie.

The issue, if you can even consider it one, is less about who demanded or requested an apology and more about the fact that it was not only requested in the first place but the student was pressured by the school to make one.

The media is certainly making a bigger deal out of this than it is but it begs the question, since when is a person tweeting a joke (dear god, an 18 year old said "sucks") about a politician cause for any kind of public response whatsoever?

To echo what I said earlier, must have been a slow news day indeed.

How can you say it's just a slow news day when a poor little girl had her freedoms violated so brutally

I'll violate your freedoms, if you know what I mean.

Didn't the Governor already apologize to her blaming his staff instead of admitting he is a douche?

Should he have to apologize if only his staff is responsible?

He is responsible for what his staff writes in his name, so yes! Don't you think?

There's no indication that he had anything to do with what happened, so as a token, there is no responsibility. If you mean a generic responsibility over "employees", then no, he is not responsible for every action taken by them.

So now people are calling for the governor's apology? This gets better and better. What is it with people and apologies anyway? If you have to ask for it then it obviously doesn't mean anything.

Whole thing is completely ridiculous, my Mom works in the school district this took place in and said that it is the very well off school (well off in Kansas = Huge backing by ultra conservatives) which explains some of the silliness.

He apologized on the first page, at least 3 days ago? Do people even read the thread? lol

Damage control my friend. As the leader of his office, yes he had to apologize on their behalf for public relations sake. No he isn't responsible for all of their actions, but he is being accountable for allowing their autonomy get the best of him this time.

From a purely bullshit political perspective, he should (And did). The person is asking that he apologize for his own actions because he was responsible. I am arguing against the idea that we have the information to deduce that he was responsible.
