      • The PC's main job must be eligible for the skill in question (see chart below).
      • Job level must be 96 or higher.
      • The corresponding weapon skill attribute must be 357 or higher.

    I have to admit, I am slightly disappointed that they are done through merits, especially since you are going to have to gimp the potential to unlock a bunch of them if you have a lot of jobs capped.

    I guess the justification behind that would be since you can only merit so many of them you might as well be able to use them on any job with high enough skill, seeing as WAR is on damn near every single one of them.

    With the exception of Hand-to-Hand, Archery, and Marksmanship they are the same jobs as the quested weapon skills. (PUP gets Hand-to-Hand, SAM gets Archery, and THF gets Marksmanship for the merited ones as opposed to the quested ones.)

    Guess I'll go ahead and bring some info if you guys are interested.

    H2H: Shijin Spiral Five-Hit WS, Additional Effect: Plague. TP mods chance of Plague.
    Dagger: Exenterator Four-Hit WS, Additional Effect: Accuracy Down. Duration of effect varies with TP.
    Sword: Requiescat Five-Hit WS, Non-elemental damage. TP mods Attack (Not sure what it means by this)
    Great Sword: Resolution Five-Hit WS, Damage varies with TP.
    Axe: Ruinator Four-Hit WS, Accuracy varies with TP.
    Great Axe: Upheaval Four-Hit WS, Damage varies with TP.
    Scythe: Entropy Four-Hit WS, restores MP based on damage dealt. Damage varies with TP.
    Polearm: Stardiver Four-Hit WS, lowers enemy critical hit evasion. Damage varies with TP.
    Katana: Blade: Shun Five-Hit WS. TP mods Attack (Same characters as sword)
    Great Katana: Tachi: Shoha Two-Hit WS. Damage varies with TP.
    Club: Realmrazer Seven-Hit WS. Accuracy varies with TP.
    Staff: Shattersoul Four-Hit WS. Lowers enemy magic defense. Chance of effect varies with TP.
    Bow: Apex Arrow Triple Damage that ignores defense. Amount ignored varies with TP.

    EDIT: In a Perusal of the JP wiki I've found out the descriptions for the new Sword and Katana WS TP mods have only ever been used before for Iron Tempest and Sturmwind in the JP version. It's exactly what it says on the tin: your attack is modded instead of your FTP. In the English version of the game, this distinction is not made and it simply says "Damage varies with TP" for those two weapon skills. It seems that they're taking into consideration that PLD and NIN may have hard times against enemies with high defense and thus made TP mod attack this time instead of FTP.

    Really good and exciting. I'm fine it being merits too (yay reasons to grind more). One the plus to the whole limitation from merits is now you can show you're a career BST by meriting the axe WS instead of all the other ones (of course with your LS questioning your choice).

    The whole being excited about weapon skills makes me question why SE doesn't do weapon skills for their other FF games. Limit breaks aren't close enough (can't use them as much).

    FFXV needs to be FFXII with weapon skills from FFXI. That is all.

    The jumps aren't even really similar. Doomspike is a hop in the air and a forward down thrust, Chaos Thrust is 2 slashes and a single poke. Stardiver is multiple thrusts followed by a jump and vertical dive. The only commonalities are stabbing attacks and jumps.

    They have as much in common as any other stab/jump WS. The actual motions are worlds apart, though I don't doubt some influence.

    Anyway, new WS are really nice. The unique WS motions are one of the things I loved about XI, it's just a shame you rarely ever got to use the best looking ones (which I why I loved MNK).

    Thread on FFXIAH has someone saying that each tier increases the mod 17%.

    Assuming unlocking it gives it 17% to start with.. thats 85% total.
    Thats a real big difference, and make it hard to only pick three to unlock and fully merit.

    I'd assume that it's further upgrades, since you'd need the first one just to have it at all. Still, yeah, would be a fair bit to add. Especially if it's rounding for the merit description and it's really 17.5% for a nice .7 extra on the mod for 5/5.

    So, you have 15 merit points to spend in the weapon skill category, with a max upgrade of 5 per ws. Looking over this, there are 7 ws that I'd like to get for use on 4 jobs. Kinda don't like how they did that...as it limits you a great deal from boosting all of them, but I guess depending on how the base damage is, go off that to figure out what to merit to higher tiers.

    It really depends on the first hit fTP. A Dagger WS with an 85% AGI mod and 4 base fTP that can't crit normally would be nearly useless for all jobs that can wear daggers.

    Those animations are fucking insanely ridiculous. They destroy the animations in every other MMO on the market, let alone regular video games.

    Sometimes I want to come back to FFXI because of stuff like this.

    Any word, on real new content besides VNM?
