    Ender's Game (November 1, 2013)

I'd heard a lot of rumblings about it, but now it apparently has a release date -- March 15, 2013 -- and a star, Asa Butterfield.

I've never seen anything that Asa Butterfield has been in, but he has the right look for it. I'm a little concerned that he's going to be 15 during filming, which means he's quite a bit older than Ender is in the book. I guess that's probably got to be the way it is given the difficulties of casting a real child actor in such a complex role, but it'll take some convincing.

This movie could be awesome. The special effects for the Battle Room probably weren't practical until recently, so I'm glad they waited until now to make the film, but it also has the potential to be a huge letdown.

I fucking love Ender's Game and I've thought about a movie for a long time, but I never thought they'd actually do it.

Sceptical, but looking forward to it.

I would be skeptical/worried if I didn't know that the author has waited soooo long in getting the script he wanted.

Exciting. Ender's Game is probably my favorite book. That kid looks good. Harrison Ford as Graff would be fantastic, but I pictured someone more portly for some reason (I don't remember if he's supposed to be or not). Harrison Ford might make a good Mazer Rackham for that matter, although I think he's supposed to be some kind of ethnic, but again I don't remember too well.

This has been in the works for like 10 years hasn't it? Looks like it'll be terrible.

Kid looks excellent for Ender. Probably isn't a child actor that will be able to portray Bean well, if they do manage to get one I will be surprised.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    hmm interesting.

Like ten years ago I went to a book signing of Card's and he talked a little bit about the script he was writing then. At the time they were all set to go with Jake Loyd (lol) for Ender. Glad that didn't pan out. However, he did mention that one of the difficulties was that he wanted to ultimately do both Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow as movies, which would mean filming both at the same time to counter aging issues.

I wonder if that's still true or if after 10 years he's said, "fuck it we'll just do Game so it can happen before I die."

I really saw the Ender series going as either a high-end animated approach or not at all. Meh

I was literally wondering less than a week ago while glimpsing my copy of the book on the shelf as to why they hadn't made this into a movie yet.

Partly because I wanted something that potentially awesome to happen and partly because Hollywood likes raping my childhood.

Or he said, "I'm tired of working for a living. I've been sitting on the gold mine that is the Ender's Game movie rights for 20 years, let's go ahead and tap into it so I can sleep in sheets made of $100 bills for the rest of my days."

Ender's Shadow got a comic book series, maybe Card's satisfied with that. You never know, after waiting this long maybe Card is confident that the current team working on the movie will do okay. It could turn out well. It's just such a psychological mind trip of a book that it might be difficult to get a lot of the book across through film.

Entirely. So many people read Ender's Game and don't bother with Speaker for the Dead. It was infinitely better. Not saying EG was anything short of amazing though.

Xenocide though.. I just couldn't finish. Too much wood-grain tracing.
