Well, Peter will be important, should they decide to make movies out of the Shadow series, but I doubt they will, though they are more likely than movies being made out of SFTD, Xenocide, or CotM. Mainly because the Shadow series is probably going to have a greater commercial appeal in a movie setting than pigmy aliens and Portugese women with 6 kids. Though they will probably fuck Shadow movies up and turn it into action flick without half the political play the books had.

Forget the other books. Peter was important in Ender's Game because he is literally the basis for every doubt Ender has about himself throughout the entire book.

Kicked the crap out of that kid from school: Shit, I'm turning into Peter. Need to be better.
Kicked the crap out of that kid going to battle school: Shit, I'm turning into Peter. Need to be better.
Kicked the crap out of that kid in the bathroom: Shit, I'm turning into Peter. Need to be better.
Sees Peter's face, not his own, in the mirror of a game that reads your mind: Shit, this game thinks I'm turning into Peter. Need to be better.

Peter was Ender's drive to be a human being, and not a monster whose sole purpose was for killing. Despite the fact that's exactly what he was bred for, and knowing full well that's what he was bred for.

Agree with this, but Bonzo actor also has to be good to supplement this.

Obvious trolling or do you have a good reason to back up that opinion that you'd like to share with the class? XD

Extremely bored at word so trolling. But in all honesty apart from Bean I did not like the book at all. I know that puts me in the minority. I just don't see what the big deal about it is.

probably has to do with the ability for young readers to relate to the young characters. Most socially geeky kids have that desire to be part of something big and honorable, and OSC did a smash up job of relating the kinds of demons that come along with being the outcast. Nobody wants to be labeled the "kid every other kid should strive to be" its alienating, and alot of times has detrimental affects when it comes to a childs social development.

The plot itself is good enough on paper. The writing of Card himself leaves something to be desired. Overall I felt like the writing didn't live up to the potential of the plot. It feels like I must have missed something when I read it because I don't understand why so many people just fawn over the book. Looks like I'll need to go back and reread it.

It can't be helped if you don't like his style. It's pretty distinctive but I can't put my finger on what exactly sets it apart. I don't really like his non-Ender/Bean books - he has written a lot, and I have a couple of his other books and they're really just meh. Even still, I count Ender's Game as my favorite book or at least in the top 5 since favorite is kind of hard to pick.

OSC wrote Ender's Game in order to write Speaker for the Dead, and it is really that simple. Ender's Game was originally a short story, which OSC went back and rewrote when he realized he could use it as a back story for the characters in Speaker for the Dead.

That being said, I still loved Ender's Game, but it was a different love than I had for Speaker for the Dead/Xenocide/Children of the mind.

I haven't read all his books, but I thought the Worthing series, Homecoming series, Hart's Hope, Wyrms, and Enchantment were great. Alvin series not so much, just didn't like the setting. He's written a lot, so that leaves quite a bit of material I haven't gotten in to.

His standalone novels (I haven't read his other series) aren't that good imo. The settings are usually kind of weird and the plots are even weirder. No, they're really, REALLY weird. I cite Songmaster as one of the weirder ones...

And for someone who apparently voted against gay marriage, there sure is a lot of homo in that book.

I'm going to go back and reread Ender's Game and depending on how I feel about it possibly read Speaker for the Dead. So we'll see if maybe my view has changed over the years.

    Agreed.

I may not like his religious or political views... but damn that man can write a story.

Full cast list with photos. I didn't know who was playing Mazer Rackham, but his casting excites me. The rest of important cast looks like, well, kids. They all appear to fit the part, though. Bean and Bonzo look spot on, in particular, IMHO.

Ben Kingsley playing a bad ass ? Awwwww Yeeaaahhhh. All of the cast looks very well on point... going to be interesting for the actress playing Arkanian since the book she technically walks out naked from the shower across the bunks >.> I'm sure they are going to leave that out of course.

The writing style between Ender's Game and the rest of the series is vastly different. EG is meant to be slightly childish. It's like Tolkien's Hobbit vs LotRs. It's a prelude to the real story.

Also, I'm not sure how I feel about Anderson being a female. Female characters tend to be softer, and Anderson was the most outwardly harsh adult towards Ender.

Yeah, kinda disappointed in Anderson, TBH.
