    I've noticed a few posts against GC and even though I haven't used the plugin yet, the concept makes sense for when SE unlocks storage for use at any city. He has a plugin called "Find" and "GC." The latter will get your gear for you. The former helps you get whatever you need that may have been scattered. Though I will admit that being unable to decide which spellcast gear to take out may be problematic since classes such as BLU cannot hold every piece of gear listed within spellcast. I'm not sure how programmers can get around that issue unless you include an option to only take certain sets each time you use the plugin.

    My Linkshell mates agree. They won't use it either. I'm not sure how many others feel this way, but it's a "make or break" feature to me.

    Its really not that difficult to bypass it lol...put your abyssea sets and perishables in say your sack, and then disable sack usage, and move that stuff manually, then use gc to move everything else.

    That isn't adequate. I wouldn't want my other storage spots jumbled either.

    There is an option to take certain groups rather than everything in a job's XML, I believe.

    This is already a feature, it's divided by groups however.

    Additional info since I was beaten: Usage is //gc <job> set1 set2 ... setn, and it will only take out those sets.

    What does it matter? All your gear is automatically going to be found and moved, and as has been said, there is a plugin to find "lost" gear. Sounds like some people scared of change imo...

    Well, I look forward to using that when I get the chance then! Also, move your ass over to this server.

    There is a file called 'global.xml' which it drops into your spellcast directory which contains a list of objects which will be passed over. It requires entering item by ID#, however you can cross-reference with FFXIAH to get those easily. There's also an include block which I assume would keep items in your inventory regardless of job, but I'm uncertain on that point.

    Isn't 'adequate' ? Jesus.

    As has been pointed out, it is entirely possible to set it up as is to work just fine, even for people with sticks shoved much too far up their ass, as seems to be your problem. Set to ignore all Porter Moogle / situational gear, disable Satchel and/or Sack so that GC doesn't touch where you put your situational gear, done. Works beautifully.

    While additional functionality in the future would be awesome, being a colossal prick about it when you don't even seem to understand how to use it properly in the first place is pretty uncalled for. Seriously, why don't you get to work making plugins that you feel are 'adequate' if you have such a problem with the results of others' hard work to make your life easier?

    ITT: Choosing not to use a plugin and offering sincere feedback about why they came to that decision = having a stick up your ass and being a huge prick.

    I don't know about Aur, but personally I prefer to get as much sincere negative feedback as possible whenever I code something so that I know how to improve it and what other features people might want. As long as it isn't a bunch of spam going "Hurrr this sucks lolol never gonna use dis", I'm happy with it. It's much less boring than releasing a project and having everyone love it unconditionally. Where's the fun in that?

    It'd be different if his 'sincere negative feedback' was somehow valid, which it's not.

    Every released version of GearUp has had that request, though.

    Should just have sets named "Mog Safe", "Mog Locker", "Storage", "Mog Satchel", "Mog Sack", and "Inventory" in spellcast so people can choose their level of analness.

    Personal preference is not valid now?

    You're freaking out awful hard about a personal decision not to use a product. She even said that she appreciated the concept and was grateful that the plugin existed.

    I don't use GC for the same reasons, personally. I already know where every single item on my character is at any given time and I prefer to keep it that way. GC wouldn't really save me time on job changes, but it would certainly be convenient - that is, if and only if I was able to preserve the overall structure of my storage. As it is now, it is actually an inconvenience because it scatters my inventory to the four winds.

    With that said, I've made most of my friends go and get it. It saves them a lot of time.

    To address these issues, I'd recommend looking into a "Store-In" function in the settings which would have GC prioritize the location where they store certain items when possible (eg, when location isNotFull).

    Example:
    <StoreIn = "Satchel">Storage Slip 10</StoreIn>
    <StoreIn = "Satchel|Sack">Shihei</StoreIn>

    Edit: Ha, beaten sorta.

    I guess my question is, if GC will find and move any piece of gear in any block of storage you specify, why does it matter where it ends up? It doesn't.

    If you don't want your Tavnazia Ring ending up in your Mog Safe:

    <useSatchel>False</useSatchel>

    <ignore>
    <item id = "14672"/>
    </ignore>

    Move it back and forth manually from your Satchel when you want to use it. Wow, that was hard. Repeat for situational gear, Porter gear, etc.

    I understand that everyone is used to their super-particular method of storing specific items in specific places, but when you have a program that doesn't give a shit where it's at or where it goes, but puts all the correct gear in your inventory with 100% accuracy in half the time it'd take you to even just mash Enter on a list... embrace the change.

    The issue is that GC works great under the premise that the only storage space that matters is your active inventory.

    While this may have been true back when the very first iteration of the program/plugin was coded, this is not the case now. You can't just set up one inventory and then throw everything else to the wind, because you're going to have access to 3 different inventories in the field and there isn't enough space to put all of your necessary items into a single 80-slot inventory. You're going to need to have your Inventory, your Sack, and your Satchel all equipped properly in order to function.

    No one's coming on here and saying GC isn't one of the coolest Windower plugins ever made - it is. It's just not beneficial for everyone.

    Does this plugin have to physically open the sack/satchel etc windows to move the gear, or is it able to bypass this by just sending the message to switch them to the server? (I haven't used GearCollector, mostly because I haven't been on another job since like 2005...)

    I was getting an idea the other day for something a bit similar...

    If it's possible to move items from your satchel to your inventory or vice versa without physically opening the menu, I think the following would be possible combining ideas from this new GearCollector plugin, and the Find Plugin... and a bit of LightLuggage as well.

    - Have a defined list of gear/items to keep in inventory at all times.
    - Move all other items to a pre-determined location as they fall to your inventory
    - Auto-sort sack/satchel
    - If an item is called for, but not in your main inventory, the plugin will parse your sack and satchel for it, move it to your main inventory, and use it.

    This would effectively give you up to 239 working inventory. You'd need a minimum of one slot free so stuff can move around.

    Questions / Issues:

    - Is it even possible to send a message to the FFXI servers to move items from one location to another without opening windows and without setting off red flags?
    - Bazaared items could be an issue/flag, if the message to move that item keeps getting spammed to the server, when it cannot be moved.
    - If it is possible, would it be fast/efficient enough to do something like cast Utsusemi from shihei in your mog sack?
    - Would it be possible to move several items in one fell swoop without lag eating up half of the information, and setting off red flags?

    It would open up a world of possibilities, but seems like it might be too clunky for FFXI's client to handle it.

    Again, I don't see the problem. Set your situational gear, meds, seals, whatever you want to keep in your on-person inventory to <ignore>, keep it in your Sack/Satchel. How is this difficult?

    I didnt know it matters where your Kannagi goes when you change jobs...since the automated program is going to know where it is and find it when you hop back on nin. Same thing for your pitchfork...if its in your satchel, its stayin there unless you manually move it out. when youre done, manually move it back.

    It just seems it needs some work to make it "functional" for the XI player who actually cares about their gear sets.
    One gives logical reasons for why a feature would be needed. The other is being a dismissive asshat.

    Except the gear/items you may want to keep in your sack/satchel may differ between each job (eg, having over 80 items for a job, bringing commonly/currently used gear in main inventory, which GC does, and then storing alternate sets in sack/satchel, with GC does not do). And at that point, if you're going to be swapping that much manually, you may as well just do the whole thing by hand so you don't have to hunt for things.

    Do people really have <=80 pieces of gear for anything any more?
