    Watchmen 2 (Comic)

I apologized if I missed the thread somewhere, or this belong in DC Reboot. Feel free to move it if so.

Andy Kubert To Draw Watchmen 2 (UPDATE)

We’ve had his name mentioned to us before, regarding this project. There is circumstantial evidence to support it.

Well, today Bleeding Cool had it confirmed. Not officially of course, don’t be ridiculous. But we’ve been informed quite conclusively from a reliable source at DC Comics that Andy Kubert is drawing one of the four Watchmen prequel miniseries we’ve heard so much about. Taking one of the principle characters from the series and telling a pre-Watchmen tale.

But I understand he may not be the only Kubert getting involved with this.

Other people previously named include Darwyn Cooke (as the equivalent of mini-series showrunner), JMS, John Higgins and JG Jones. Oh, and Dave Gibbons.

DC, as ever these days, declined to comment.

If Alan Moore's not involved (and he's never going to be involved, I'm sure), I'm highly skeptical, at best.

This. No Alan Moore, no interest.

the people involved are great writers, but Watchmen stands on its own. It doesn't need anything else(although I enjoyed the movie a lot)

I never thought I'd see the day a comic about Watchmen was made without Alan Moore. Fuck DC.

This is terrible news. Watchmen is a perfect stand-alone book. It doesn't need prequels or sequels. Wish they would have let it be.

I suppose, if they have to write additional material, I'd rather see prequels than sequels. A Rorschach or Comedian centered story could be entertaining, I suppose.

Prequels are definitely better than a sequel. But I rather the story left alone. It's really just fucked up to mess with a writer's fiction if he doesn't approve of it. If he supports it, it is a different story, but I recall him stating he would not do more Watchmen books.

This reminds me of the Dune prequels cashins.

I think the only way this could be slightly tolerable is if it focused on the lesser members of the original Minutemen team. Since we found out very little about them besides how they died, it can be done without worrying about screwing up what is already known. But then again, who really wants to read about Dollar Bill?

Difference is though that Brian Herbert left scripts for the prequel books, which were found along with Dune7. He intended to write them, but died before doing it.

I've enjoyed the prequel books quite a bit. I always felt the original Dune books had a bit too much happen "off screen" and had some detail left out. By Herbert's son and another author take the outlines and flesh them out, I feel the prequels and the "Dune 7" books are perhaps better than they would have been had the original author finished them.

I don't know how I feel about a Watchmen prequel though... could be good or bad, but at least there seems to be a solid staff lining up to work on them.

Agreed. I enjoyed them very much. I do like how Herbert being abstract as hell though, gave depth to the stories.

But, back on topic, Watchmen sequel would be either complete awesome or utter shit -_-

It's going to be utter shit. There is just no way it's going to live up to the original, 25 years later.

Even with Moore, it's going to be a tough sell. The historical context is so lost he may as well be writing The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century 1980. Nobody's going to really get it.

The story was told. Anything worth showing from the past was covered. This will be utter garbage, and will actually drag down the original work for new fans by association.

I heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor... I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laughs. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.
