    Halp Selling a TV Online

So I got a TV around the Black Friday weekend and found that it wasn't going to work for what I hoped. I was going to return it but noticed it retails for about $100~200 more right now and thought I'd try to sell it, but have never done this with something this expensive. I considered craig's list but wasn't sure how to go about making sure I get paid without seeming like a scam since I doubt anyone would be paying with cash. Willing to try ebay too but not sure what to expect as far as losses as a seller between ebay, paypal and shipping and how to adjust for that.

Also, it's been unboxed and used, but only for a total of about 3 hours so I wasn't sure if it can still be considered new and if not, how to adjust for that since the full warranty is still applicable. Here's the current ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Panasonic-Vi...xp=2&_sticky=1

Speaking of, how does the warranty work for the next recipient? Do I need to provide them with a receipt? I only have the invoice that came with it so I'm not sure what to do there either.

I only have a 14-day return window that ends on the 12th so I'm trying to figure out what my options are asap. Thanks for any help!

List it on Craigslist and accept cash only and a hand shake. Give them the information that they would need to honor the warranty. Some warranties are not transferable though. They should only need a proof of purchase as long as the warranty is honored even after a buyer transfer.

Depending on the value of the tv Ebay will hit you hard with the final sell fees and Paypal will get a piece also although not as bad. Shipping will be ALOT, i sold a 42" lcd earlier this year and still had the original box and everything, searched the major shipping companies to see who had the best price. I put it the correct weight and size of the box and UPS quoted the cheapest of 80 something but when I got there to send it it was 230.00 since it was a tv they had to put it in 2 "special" boxes which cost 90 then extra cost for large fragile shipping or some shit, I got lucky the buyer split the excess cost with me after the fact. Best bet sell local cash only.

Seconding local, cash only. Shipping is expensive, so being able to put it in your car and drive it where it needs to go will save you a lot of money. Craigslist is probably the easiest way to go for that. If you do go with craigslist, make sure you meet in a public place with plenty of people around, and not a dark alley at midnight, etc.

Fuck delivering it for them. List on Craigslist as I said before. Local, cash only and make them come get it. If you are scared about someone knowing where you live, go meet them in a public parking lot close to your house but make them do all the leg work. They are the buyer. If they want it, they will come up with the cash and be willing to meet you at your convenience.

I sell on Craigslist all the time and have never once had any problems. It's not uncommon for people to bring cash even for large purchases. I had a guy bring a wad of $100 bills for an $1800 purchase.

Siding with the others. Put on Craigslist, have them meet you at some public place around where you live at.

Do you have starbucks where you live? Or supermarkets? Yes? Then you will be fine, just don't agree to meet at 2am.

Still looking to see what I'll need to do about the warranty, but I was thinking: what if the buyer wants to see it working? All I can think of is like, posting a video of it working on youtube? lol

Rent an hourly rate hotel room in a seedy part of town? You know to have a good place to plug the tv in but won't show the buyer where you live...

Hell with today just about everyone having a smart phone, just record the video with your phone and send it as a text attachment. Or yea, youtube.

If I were selling a TV on craigslist I'd probably just have them come to your house, show them that it works and send them on their way. it's really not as sketchy as you'd think... if you're buying a car from there typically you just have people come to your house and test drive it, not just drive around your car somewhere for all potential buyers to test drive.

As for payment.. just do cash, if they really have to they can go to their bank or something and withdraw it, no big deal
