Admittedly vacating the wins is brutal. I was also expected a two year ban or so. This may not be the death penalty but it's easily just as bad. I don't particularly care for Penn State or Joe Paterno(sorry Mote) but the kids who busted their asses are the ones who are really getting the shaft. Paterno's dead and buried. All this does nothing to affect him. The university head honchos are facing jail time in all likelihood. What do they care what happens to the school at this point? They have other problems to worry about. Hopefully the NCAA will do something in order for the scholarship athletes to transfer out and retain their scholarships. If they don't that's a horrible thing to do to kids who may not have had enough money to attend college any other way.

I've never really understood these kind of punishments since they only ever punish people who had nothing to do with the violation. Throw all the people involved in jail and fine the shit out of the school, leave everything else alone.

Taking away wins is hurting even more people then JoePa. And really, its just dumb over all. Wins happened and you just can't pretend it didn't know.

Big Ten just released their statement.

• Penn State officially censured
• Will comply with the NCAA 5 year probation
• Bowl ban is extended to Big Ten Championship Games (same time period)
• Penn State is ineligible to receive share of Big Ten bowl revenues for the duration of the bowl ban. Revenue will be going towards charity instead.

It sucks for the players during those years, but it had to be done. Can't have JoePa on the leaderboard for most Div-I football wins after what happened.

As others have said, current players can transfer immediately, or at any time in their career, without penalty. So they're fine.

Penn State clearly had a competitive advantage by having Sandusky around, so wins had to be vacated.

I'm alright with everything except the vacated wins because it really makes no sense at all other than the NCAA showing how big its penis is.

I was also in the camp of this being a federal and criminal matter and not a NCAA matter...

However, I was also of the feeling that the coaching staff and program should be punished for what they did on the whole while keeping the punishment for athletes, faculty, the Big 10, and all current students at Penn State minimal or nonexistant.

My original idea had Penn State vacating wins from 1998 only until 2003 or 2004. Going all the way to 2011 is a little severe, but im fine with it. My other idea was something Nick Saban actually spoke about at SEC media days in that a % or all ticket sales go toward a charity fund for abused and underprivileged children. This again hurts the football program in basically not making any money this year but the school on the whole gets a nice x-million tax write-off.

In terms if the reduction in scholarships, I don't think they are necessarily fair but in the NCAA style Penn State wasn't going to avoid that sort of punishment, but I was expecting closer to 2 years so as not to punish the current freshman and incoming freshman 3-4 years from now.

Punishment was a bit severe for the students and Penn State as a institution and member of the Big 10 (who I also expect to invoke punishment themselves), but I feel fair for the program and what went on. Again, it was a criminal matter and the NCAA should have said the courts will decide proper punishment and then the NCAA supplements it. But it is what it is now.

Part of such a harsh set of penalties is to give a warning shot at every other NCAA school so that the situation never happens again. Thankfully this allows (i think) any Penn State Student Athlete to transfer and retain any eligibility. It also apparently allows any current football student athlete to keep his scholorship even if he chooses to no longer play. Its a nice balance of punishing the school and the legacy while allowing any of the kids involved in the school sports program a fair means of continuing on however they wish.
