WoW allows you to have multiple characters simply because you can't change classes at all. In FFXI/XIV everything can be experienced with one character (minus Companies and city storyline but that'll change later I guess).
And they're not discarding everything, the content as well as gear, levels and gil will stay when version 2.0 hits.

Just like the current gear went from normal to decayed? Point is that we should be able to make characters on whatever server that we choose whenever we choose and not have to pay $3 for it. I should be able to have a mule on my server if I want to unload random shit that I don't want clogging my main's inventory.

Square-Enix does not care about what you want, or think. They want to make money, and they will nickel and dime you over things that may seem trivial and go unnoticed in other games.

I hope I can purchase more retainers because fuck paying for my alts. Problem is I can't get rid of them without more retainers due to all the materia on them. Worst case I'll get rid of the second account and put the alts on my main account since we'll have a delivery service in 1.20 (I think).

hahaha I'm in the same boat. Got a 2nd account with a few characters and stuff on them I need to transfer to my main. Holding out for them to hopefully add the delivery box and fix this stupid server lag so it won't take me 5 hours to do so.

We're getting player search and item search in 1.20... and both systems are being problematic to implement. I might remember wrong, but wasn't the delivery system one of those things that they mentioned they simply couldn't do in the current server architecture?

I love how everyone cries about this but I'm willing to bet, come the end of January, most of them are still playing (and paying).

OK I could be wrong and SE could get a nasty surprise, but I reckon that while 80%+ say they won't pay and plan to rage quit, only a fraction of that actually will. In fact, I'd love to see some hard stats/polls etc to see how opinion before equates to server populations after.

I think the overarching issue here is that you should not need a mule to play a mmorpg. Ever.

SE needs to do away with the every-item-has-a-use bullshit already. Make 50% of the items vendor only, sold at guilds and make me people delete gil to level crafts like every other game. In controls prices and reduces inventory massively. It's just another stone age idea they keep clinging to.

Of course, the items you gather cannot he bought at vendors or at least not for a reasonable price, ensuring dol always have a purpose. High level synth items (ie. black sole, dart frog, faeire apples etc.) should be in high grades than 2/3 for the incentive of gathering while progressing. It's stupid that I have to go backwards in grades to make money off those items.

I plan to but the way server population is looking right now, it's murky at best. The game is free, and barely anyone on. I think people are dead serious about not paying.

Yoshida mentioned retainers are going to be tied to a player's account, not character come 2.0.

I'll be paying, but I'm going by month obviously. Also I'm only paying until everything I have (excluding miner/bot) hit 50 which, depending on how mrd works post 1.20 for PL'ing, will only take me until the end of January if I play consistently. After that I highly doubt any content this game has will keep me around on a daily basis or anyone else. It's hard enough as is to get a group to do ifrit, not because people don't want to go, just because no one is around to play even though the game is free. Who really is going to stick around paying $10 a month for a game that has almost no player base and no content? It's not that I don't have the $10 it's that they're charging for a game that still sucks when they said they wouldn't until it was deemed 'playable'. Still have the laggy ass menus in the game everywhere you look and the clunky ass battle system with the timers always off for my abilities(insert 20 other common issues that shouldn't exist). Unless they fix all that this patch I don't consider the game 'playable'. Sure they've made some good improvements but overall we're still missing a lot of stuff and I doubt 1.20 will fix it all.
