I want that pick!
This seems like something on the side that will be fun and interesting.
Is it me or that list was incredibly boring.
Achievements are fun when they challenge you in a different way than the rest of the game, when they add twist to existing material. Exploration achievements are fine to keep track of the crystal you're attuned to, but the rest are just stuff you will get by playing a lot. I want to see shit like "kill x boss without losing any party member", "avoid every spell in X encounter".
In all honesty, I'm happy about this system. I like that a majority of my efforts could simultaneously go towards character development and achievement trophies. Hopefully the items aren't completely shitty town gear onry. I'm just not a fan of the "Craft 300 BSM items in the Lv.11-20 range." stuff because once you have allready passed that range without making 300+ items, going back to grind away at something like that only for achievement points makes me sad.
I'm not complaining that they are adding this achievement system, it's a fun way to keep track of your progress. It's just that all of them scream "grinding", and none of them really had anything to the gameplay.
If they had more interesting achievement, they would be on that list.
I'm sure they will add more later, and hopefully, it will be the good kind, but I was hoping that these achievements would add "fun" stuff to do now, rather than in 1 year.
See, while most of them are definitively grindy (like kill 5 billion mobs), they are things you will get eventually while doing other, more meaningful tasks that people are doing anyways (farming/exping/spiritbond/etc). The achievements I don't like are ones that involve grinding lower-level shit for no real reason other than to meet achievement requirements, which is the case for the "grind grade-2 gathering points a thousand times" or "go back and make 500 low-level goldsmithing shit."
Killing 6 digits worth of monsters, getting level 50 in a class, etc. are all "eventual" things, in my opinion. If people want to prioritize grinding away at just that kind of achievement instead of letting it happen naturally (which will happen), that's their decision... but requiring the player to go back to worthless low-level recipes and gathering points for this stuff is lame.
Obviously the better ones are short-order Ifrit, killing the 3 Toto-Rak bosses, Batraal, etc. Stuff that requires you to either be more efficient or a better player, or switch up your strategy is going to add some fun.
I'm just don't mind them simply adding rewards to stuff people are already doing.
Maybe I'll finally end up with some achievements for collecting every damn rare/ex item in the game. :3
Exactly, and that's why I find these achievements boring. I'm not going out of my way to do anything in this list, and earning them won't be fun because it's an inevitable milestones. They don't harm the game in any way, but they don't add much at the same time.
Like you said, the one that force you to grind old content are worse. It's one thing to make people do everything once (ie: clear this low level dungeon once), it's another to make them repeat pointless content (ie: clear low level dungeon 50 times). If it was something like "mine every type of low grade ore once", or "complete 10 low grade recipe in this list) it would be fine, but the one they listed seemed stupid.
Right now, the only one I'm happy with are the exploration achievements, and I hope the reward will be good enough to make everyone grab every single outpost. It's going to be useful sooner or later.
[edit]
Essentially, all I want is "do everything in the game once" or "do it differently (more challenging)" achievements. Milestone achievement are rarely interesting, and not very fun to get.
