A couple of days ago a rumor hit the internet saying that Mark Wahlberg was in talks with Michael Bay to join Transformers 4. Bay has now put this rumor to rest saying,

The Mark Wahlberg T4 rumor is just a rumor. Mark and I are talking about another film project.

In a recent interview with Collider Hugo Weaving called his voiceover work as Megatron in the Transformers films meaningless, and director Michael Bay got pissed off and fired back at the actor on his blog. Here's what the actor said,

That's a weird job for me because it honestly was a two-hour voice job, initially. I was doing a play and I actually didn't have time, anyway. It was one of the only things I've ever done where I had no knowledge of it, I didn't care about it, I didn't think about it. They wanted me to do it. In one way, I regret that bit. I don't regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it's meaningless. It was meaningless to me, honestly. I don't mean that in any nasty way. I did it. It was a two-hour voice job, while I was doing other things. Of course, it's a massive film that's made masses of money. I just happened to be the voice of one of the iconic villainous characters. But, my link to that and to Michael Bay is so minimal. I have never met him. I was never on set. I've seen his face on Skype. I know nothing about him, really. I just went in and did it. I never read the script. I just have my lines, and I don't know what they mean. That sounds absolutely pathetic! I've never done anything like that, in my life. It's hard to say any more about it than that, really.

After hearing his explanation I can understand why he feels that way. With all of the effects and distortion they put on his voice you can barely tell it's Weaving anyway. Bay on the other hand felt the need to lash out, he doesn't name names, but you can tell who he's talking about. Here's what Bay had to say,

Do you ever get sick of actors that make $15 million a picture, or even $200,000 for voiceover work that took a brisk one hour and 43 minutes to complete, and then complain about their jobs? With all the problems facing our world today, do these grumbling thespians really think people reading the news actually care about trivial complaints that their job wasn't 'artistic enough' or 'fulfilling enough'? I guess The Hollywood Reporter thinks so.

What happened to people who had integrity, who did a job, got paid for their hard work, and just smiled afterward? Be happy you even have a job - let alone a job that pays you more than 98% of the people in America.

I have a wonderful idea for all those whiners: They can give their 'unhappy job money' to a wonderful Elephant Rescue. It's the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Africa. I will match the funds they donate.

Michael Bay is a massive prick. I was thinking about not going to see his movies anymore anyway because they are all so overwhelmingly disappointing, but now I have decided I will actively just not see them anymore.

If he ever stops acting like money is the bottom line for everything, then maybe we'll talk. Until then, keep bastardizing things people love in order to make even more piles of money, Bay. The internet loves to hate you already, why change now?

Weaving wasn't criticizing the film or even the director, he was criticizing his own motivations for working on the film. All he was saying was that he felt no real connection to it.

After an exceptionally successful collaboration on the upcoming "Pain and Gain," Michael Bay has cast Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg in the highly anticipated "TRANSFORMERS 4." The film will hit theaters June 27th, 2014.

I dunno -- kinda interested to see if Bay introduces Galvatron and the Sweeps and Swoops through Unicron in this one to be honest.. I doubt he will, but it seems logical given that Megatron is dead.

New flesh-and-blood players are coming aboard for Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 (not the official title), for reasons of allowing the sci-fi franchise to move forward in a different direction without being rebooted. Similarly, there are going to some new robot characters appearing in the film, for reasons of Hasbro heads wanting to make more money on merchandise and toys.

At first, initial reports pegged the TF4 human leads as a high school girl and her car-racing boyfriend. That suggests this could be the rare Bay-directed film with a female protagonist; however, those characters are perhaps too close for comfort to Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf’s in the first couple Transformers movies – and thus, indicate the fourth chapter won’t be as ‘serious’ as promised.

Things have changed a bit since then, as Interwebz rumors about Mark Wahlberg signing on for TF4 (being fresh off shooting Pain & Gain with Bay) inspired its director and screenwriter Ehren Kruger (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) to bring the actor onboard – and make any script changes accordingly, to accommodate having the big-name star occupy an important role. Hence, Wahlberg is now one of the leads in the film, playing the father to the aforementioned young woman (with casting for the latter role ongoing for the past month or so).

Twitch is reporting that the roles of Wahlberg’s daughter and her boyfriend have been landed by candidates previously-shortlisted for the respective parts – namely, Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) and Brenton Thwaites (Home and Away).

Peltz and Thwaites are essentially newcomers – as far as the average Transformer fan is concerned – given the obscure nature of Thwaites’ television work here in the States; not to mention, Last Airbender didn’t exactly give Peltz an opportunity to shine. As it were, both have started to make a name for themselves, with Peltz appearing in the buzzed-about Bates Motel TV series and Thwaites showing up in Disney’s Maleficent movie starring Angelina Jolie.

That’s to say: the pair are in pretty much an identical position as Fox and LaBeouf before they starred in the first Transformers. Whether or not Peltz and Thwaites’ characters will mark an improvement on Mikaela and Sam – or feel like uninspired variations – remains to be seen.

It's no secret that the Transformers franchise is headed in a different direction, with a whole new cast and a set of new robots that will battle each other. Mark Wahlberg is reteaming with Michael Bay and taking on the lead role in Transformers 4. While promoting his new film Broken City the actor told I Am Rogue that this Transformers movie would be "very different" from the previous films. With all the other changes that have been announced I think we all assumed that would be the case. Here's what the actor had to say about working with Bay, his excitement for the Transformers, and how his role in it will be the most challenging role yet.

I had a great experience working with Michael. We really hit it off. We complement each other so well on set and we took something that was really good and I think we made something special with Pain and Gain. He said to me (on set), 'What do you think about doing a Transformers movie with me?' I said, 'Well, what do you want me to do? He told me and I said, 'Absolutely!' I think it will be the most challenging role that I’ve played and it’s an opportunity for me to do something extremely different. It’s going to be very different from what the first ones were. I’m excited about it. I talked to Steven Spielberg and I talked to Brian Grazer and I said, 'Don’t worry guys, this is not me taking a paycheck and running with it. This is me trying to … I liked what the guys did with like The Avengers, for instance. When I watched that movie I was not interested in seeing it at all but it was entertaining for me as well as for my kids. I think they did a really good job and we want to do something special with it, so I’m excited about it.

Michael Bay has announced on his website that he's cast a young actor by the name of Jack Reynor to star along side Mark Wahlberg in Transformers 4. Here's what he said about the casting on his blog, and he also clears up a few things...

I just hired a great new actor for Transformers 4 to star against Mark Wahlberg. Jack Reynor, he is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie WHAT RICHARD DID. This kid is the real deal.

Transformers 4, is not a reboot. That word has been floating around on the net.

This movie takes place exactly 4 years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy.
