Official statement sounds like a great thing. Give the new generation a go Nintendo, let's see if they can make something fresh and new for you (for once).

He's not going to be around forever, and at his current position I guess he feels the other employees rely on him too much, which is why he is stepping down. Yeah, Nintendo is fearful because it does affect their stockprice. Hopefully for them the new talent will rise to the challange.

    And in other news, SNES portable has been released;

The SupaBoy supports both SNES and Super Famicom titles, has a 3.5″ LCD screen, 2.5-hour battery life, a headphone jack, and AV out support.

Rofl, I looked at it costing $80, and Amazon had Super Mario World listed with it as the "Frequently bought together", and SMW was listed at $449.99.

I don't know why anybody would bother unless it was just like a custom job to see if they could do it, especially when you can run SNES emulators on smartphones and the PSP already anyway, not to mention you would need the actual cartridges (unless you have them already, and if you do carrying them around for a portable is silly).

"Wired Sticks By Miyamoto "Retirement" Story"

In statements made to G4tv.com, Wired magazine has defended its reporting of the “stepping down” of Nintendo visionary Shigeru Miyamoto, as presented in a recent interview.

The interview sent tremors through the gaming world and financial markets when Miyamoto said that he was retiring from his current position as head of Nintendo’s game design department and changing his role within the company in order to focus on creating smaller games than his most recent titles. Nintendo responded to the interview with a statement that seems to contradict Miyamoto’s words, saying, “Video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto's role at Nintendo is not changing.”

We spoke to Wired editor Chris Kohler who confirmed that Miyamoto’s statements were reported accurately. “Miyamoto’s comments as presented in our story are exactly what Miyamoto said, and presented with the full context of his remarks,” Kohler said. “We are absolutely standing by those statements as reported.”

Miyamoto’s native language is Japanese, leading some to speculate that Miyamoto’s remarks may have changed in translation. Nintendo itself initially categorized the remarks as a “misunderstanding.”

"This is absolutely not true," a spokeswoman for Nintendo told Reuters. "There seems to have been a misunderstanding. He has said all along that he wants to train the younger generation.”

According to Kohler, the translator used for the interview was Nintendo’s own. “It was Mr. [Yasuhiro] Minagawa; who has been Miyamoto’s translator for a very, very, very long time,” Kohler said. “I did an interview with Miyamoto in 2002, and Mr. Minagawa was Miyamoto’s translator then. It is Nintendo’s translator, not ours.”

On the news of the retirement, Nintendo shares fell two percent to 11,040 yen on the Nikkei index, compared with a 0.7 per cent drop in the Nikkei average on Thursday.

Nintendo hasn’t responded to my request for comment on this article.

Why is this a bad thing? The games you loved as a child are still there, they are still the same. He's still in Nintendo so if they really need direction its not like they can't come to him and aside from that he's been training the young bucks to be able to handle shit without him.
Maybe I just don't get it because I'm not a Nintendo fanboy?

You don't have to be a fanboy to understand the effect he's had on the video game industry. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have a number of other companies and rivals as well. If he's stepping down, that means that he's becoming more of a counselor within Nintendo than a main head of the direction of these games -- that's pretty big, regardless of him still being there or not. It means that games of this nature may or may not have the same feeling as before as he won't have the final say.

You shouldn't assume anyone thanking him is automatically a fanboy.

Looks like Nintendo is looking to cover its ass. Not a good time for anything regarding most of their current IP's possibly being handed to other peoples story/art direction. The 3DS is on fragile ground as it is. I think he is going to retire pretty soon (next 1-3 years), hes pretty old after all.

Where in the seven hells did you get anything like that from my post? Holy fuck, going off on some shit I never said.
Once again, I fail to see how this is a bad thing. Different is not bad.

The way you came off is that you are assuming fanboys [alone] are thanking him for his work and will miss him. It also looks like you can't understand why people will miss him in a leadership position. And why are you blowing up? It was a simple misconception on your post, lol.

I never said different is bad either, change can be good. In Nintendo's case, I'm not too sure -- they've been living off nostalgia since 1996.

Good thing I pretty much gave up on both since 01/02. They both gave me Super Smash Bros. Melee and Final Fantasy X, so it's all good.

You still don't see the part where I didn't say anything about anyone thanking him or anything like that..? Oh, okay.
