What do you do.... (apartment related)

when you get home to find a nonresident (we have stickers) is parked in your assigned carport spot forcing you to park outside the gated area? It's after office hours btw and only number we have is for maintenance.

Note: this is in LA so don't get me shot.

Call the building manager. Most complexes have contracts with private towing facilities and will impound the vehicle. It's just a matter of letting them know someone is parked there that shouldn't be. This is a very cut and dry situation that can be remedied with one phone call.

I had to add it in, but it's after office hours. we just moved here, and spent like an hour going through our 50 page lease trying to find an after hours phone number only one is for maintenance and it specifies that's for like water pouring on the floor.

We took a pic of the license plate, is this something we could contact police to make a report in the morning or something?

lease is retarded btw, it makes a mention that they "work with a private towing company" but don't actually give the name/number to said company.

Physically go out into the parking lot. Most lots will have a sign stating if you parked illegally and were towed call this number. It's usually the number for the facility that picked up their vehicle.

Don't waste your time attempting to file a police report for illegal parking. It's a waste of your time and theirs and won't be taken seriously. First thing in the morning I would contact the building manager and ask what towing facility they use for their lots. Get the number and hold onto it.

    ok

ONLY thing is in our lease it states: "FPI Management is the only authorized agent to have vehicles towed." (which btw when I go to FPI's website (they are the managing company) we're not listed there....lol nor is there a phone number)

So if there is a sign would that go against our lease?

Yes. Make sure call 911 too. If this doesn't warrant an emergency call I don't know what is.

btw, just want to make sure people know I'm not flipping out over this or anything. I just don't want it to become a habit, and it is a little irritating.

Out of curiosity, has it been there a while?

Is it possible it's someone visiting who doesn't know the rules? Is it happening consistently?

We have those, too, at my complex and one night someone parked in my spot. We have visitor parking right near by (not outside the gated area though) and I just parked there. They were gone a bit later.

Also, I ended up in the hospital for about 5 days and I had parked in someone else's spot kinda on accident. I was in a huge hurry and just parked asap to get inside. Someone had left notes on my car and that was it... I felt really bad about it but I had no idea who it actually was, because I wanted to tell them sorry.

Anyway, back on point, is this a huge issue that someone needs to be towed over it, is what I am saying.

Edit: You posted your post above while I was typing this, so you kinda answer my questions. I would leave a note saying to please not park there as it's your spot.

Call anonymously. Don't give your name. Problem with lease avoided. The end.

well, like I said we just moved a few weeks ago, but ya this is the first time. BUT I'm sure they know the rules. The gate is remote-control and like I said we have stickers on our cars to show we're residents (this guy doesn't have one). So it would require someone in the complex opening the gate for them to come in and park there. So I doubt it was a "I didn't know" situation.

    That clarifies things a bit.

If it happens again then fuck it, tow. I just wanted to kinda have a good heart cause someone didn't tow me after 5 days.

My initial thought when making the thread was expecting people to come up with creative notes to leave on the car, which I may have to do. Hubby went downstairs to check sign, there's a warning, no number/company name.

For sure talking to the office tomorrow to figure out who to call in the future, but I'd still like to notify the driver tonight so it won't happen again.
