    Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

There is a thread for the old one, but since this is technically a 'different game' it needs a new thread.

Hideo Kojima Wants Sixty Frames Per Second for Metal Gear Rising
All we've seen of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance at present is just a single trailer, but some already seem to be speculating on framerates. Hideo Kojima may have just put any framerate worries to rest.

Tweeted Kojima early morning America time (he's currently in America): "The old Rising that was being prototyped at Kojima Productions looked visually like Metal Gear, but it was 30 frames per second and required complicated controls. I made one request of Platinum: 'A cool Raiden who moves nice and smooth at 60 frames per second."

In a separate Tweet, Kojima touched briefly upon why the original Rising project was cancelled and switched to the Plaintum Rising. "When entrusting the next title to the Kojima Productions staff, I'm always told 'For the fans, it's no good if it's not the director's Metal Gear.' [The Director meaning Kojima]. This isn't the case, though. Saying 'If it's a spinoff can it bit done?', I entrusted the old Rising to the young staff. However, I feel certain that if their Rising had been released to the world, there would have been many people who felt, 'This isn't Metal Gear.'"

Metal Gear Rising is Not Part of Metal Gear Solid Series
Kojima Productions has been clearing up some rumors and misconceptions regarding Metal Gear Rising Revengeance following the game's unveiling earlier today.

First off, a rumor that quickly surfaced after the game's unveiling: Rising is a proper sequel in the Metal Gear Solid saga. This, according to the Kojipro official Twitter, is not the case. "We've only said that the period setting is several years after MGS4. Metal Gear Rising is not part of the Metal Gear Solid series. At present, we can't say more than this."

Rising was also the main subject of the latest Hideraji podcast, with producer Yuji Korekado sharing a few additional details about the project. Here's some of what was discussed based off a summary of the broadcast that's making the rounds (I haven't given the broadcast a listen for myself, so my translation is second hand -- there may be a few differences when you hear the official English background story via a video that will be released on the 13th).

The original Rising was announced as a game where you can chop up anything. The development staff quickly created just that. However, they felt that this alone would be insufficient.

The original Rising got to the point where the staff no longer knew what the core of the game should be. At some point, Kojima said that the project probably would not be able to be completed. However, the staff insisted that it could be done. In the end, they cancelled the project. At this point, they'd already fleshed out many areas outside of the game design component, like the story and the motion capture.

One day, Kojima leaned that members of Platinum Games had come to the Kojima Productions studio. Platinum said that it's unfortunate that the game was in a half done state. They were excited about the project that they took over.

Platinum suggested the concept of "a game where it feels so good to chop things up that you would die" (I think my translation may be weird here -- "It's so good that you die" is just a Japanese way of saying it's amazingly good.)

The title was changed because the game is different from the Metal Gear Solid series. It's a new Metal Gear.

Hideki Kamiya is not the game's director. The director will be announced later.

When restarting the project, they were originally going to use the original story. After Platinum received the data from Kojima Productions, they said they wanted to remake the story.

Anything P+ is an instant day one buy, the game using MGS lore is double the nuts busted.

I coulda swore the "old" Rising was using a storyline between MGS2 and MGS4, where Raiden rescues Sonny, etc. etc. Now they're saying it's a completely different thing. Oh well, still a day one buy for me to play as uber cyborb ninja Raiden, lol.

    EDIT: CYBORB lol, cyborg* <_<

Completely different plot = Allowing P+ to do shit so crazy that it would have never been plausible to fit into main the story.

If they can pull-off the 60fps and have it look great, props to them.
    Spoiler: show
I'd be fine with 30fps also given how well Vanquish handled even when it was under heavy load.

    Spoiler: show
Only thing that would make this more amazing for me is a touch of Suda51's wtfery.

Just like with any other p* game I'm not feeling the presentation. It's fucking Metal Gear though and the gameplay should be rock solid so day 1 it is.

Sorry, as a hardcore Metal Gear fan...Looks pretty bad to me. But that's probably because I'm not into games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta.

Kojima and Korekado Share More on Metal Gear Rising
In between pics of his various meals (today's lunch was ramen), Hideo Kojima has been providing a few bits and pieces about Metal Gear Rising via his Twitter account.

    Press Conference
He says that tomorrow he and Platinum Games' Atsushi Inaba will be meeting with the press in Los Angeles for a group press conference. They'll be giving a detailed report on how the project came to be, and will also show the 25 minute making-of video that will be shown at the official site on Tuesday.

    Name Change
Regarding the game's name, Kojima writes that Metal Gear Solid Rising was changed to Metal Gear Rising Revengeance to reflect that this isn't Solid, but is rather being made as a Metal Gear spinoff game featuring Raiden as the main character.

    Slashing Mechanics
Some appear to be concerned that the free slicing mechanics shown in the original Rising footage is gone. There have been some changes in this area, but Kojima assures that you're still free to slice things up. The original Rising let you slash everything, even things near and far in the background. However, this ended up destroying the game design. For the new Rising, they've changed it so that you can slash enemies and objects wherever and whenever you want.

    Slash Slash Slashing Mechanics
Producer Yuji Korekado chimed in and said that hardly anything has been removed from the trailer that was shown at E3 2010. The concept of "zandatsu," or "cut" and "take," is still in the game, only in order to convey the refreshing and speedy feeling of slashing things up, they've changed the flow from "Aim, Slash, Take" to "Slash, Slash, Slash, Take.

    Updated Trailer
The trailer that debuted during the Spike Video Game Awards yesterday will be posted to the game's official site on Tuesday. Korekado says that it will be updated with a few game scenes.

    Business Cards
Finally, a correction. We previously said that those razor-like Metal Gear Rising business cards Kojima and the Rising staff have are made of metal. Kojima has clarified that they're actually just thick paper.

For the most part I'm just disappointed that we won't get the details on what the hell happened between 2 and 4 (and a metric fuckton certainly did). Snake Eater shouldn't have been MGS3 but rather it's own branch off along with portable ops and Peacewalker, with MGS3 as a proper 3rd title that paced the story better. 4 is just so jam packed full of exposition about what happened before the game it's kind of annoying. Should have just been an MGS3 that continued the timeline and set the stage for 4 rather than 4 filling in the blanks, setting the stage and playing the show all at once.

Rising was sort of our chance to see what was going on while also getting to (finally) play as the cyborg ninja rather than just watch him/her have all the fun during cutscenes.

I think I want a new story rather than a story that fills in the blanks. If that means getting a new character, that's okay with me. Personally, I wish we could play as The Boss.

I am really really curious about Kojima's next title.. I remember him introducing a new engine he is making that controls similarly to the MGS series. It took place in a jungle setting if I recall correctly.

No idea what some of you were expecting. MGR is a spin-off that was never portrayed as a traditional MGS game. The trailer shows P+ obviously knows what they're doing and a DMC/Bayonetta/Ninja Gaiden style action-adventure game starring the bad ass Cyborg everyone has been seemingly wanting to play since it's predecessor all the way back to MGS1 is brilliant.

I thought it was common knowledge that MGR wasn't going to play like a normal MGS game. I mean, the very first trailer suggested it was action-oriented, so I dunno why any of this is surprising to some people.

I was excited for the original. This is a lot different, but it still looks really fun. Still a day 1 buy.

Literally Vanquish meets Bayonetta and those 2 names alone is enough to make me way more excited than I should be for a game.

Raiden's even kinda got the butt
