Not really. Before Raiden there was Gray Fox whom everyone and their mothers wanted to play as. Raiden is obviously the successor to that role ever since he got de-bitchified.

I hope there will be a section where the game will be all "time for some stealth ninja action, Raiden" with proper tutorials and shit... Then be like "lol nope" when he gets caught a minute later anyway. The section should end with raiden slicing up a building in half with "haters gonna hate" text in the background and the trailer riff playing. It could be the intro.

When confronted about how he could slice a fucking building the camera would zoom in while Raiden's head slowly turns towards it.... "Nanomachines".

I can definitely see the potential in this now.

Where are you going with this? No one liked MGS2 bitch Raiden, that's a fact. Bad ass cyborg ninja Raiden is a completely different story and that's what people are looking forward to. You act as if they're the same exact character when the difference between Raiden in MGS2 and MGS4 is night and day.

I could smell the Japanese focus groups stench when playing as Raiden. On the other hand he's one of the reasons why Kojima is an awesome troll. This game is another.

I didn't hate Raiden, but when he got the HF blade I've wanted a proper game with those sort of mechanics because deflecting bullets with a sword is badass. Also, taking on 20 Rays is badass too. Raiden gets a lot of hate, but without Rose he's a good character.

For me, it's been a long 10 years but the wait was worthwhile.

his particular ending sequence in 4 was great and probably my favorite part. but i cant stand his american voice. it reminds me of fry from futurama/tidus from FFX

Yep. Despite what people seem to think, Raiden did became a badass during the course of the game (he got over his personal issue, grabbed a sword, and rapped the shit out of everything), but most haters were too busy hating to notice.

I also believe that playing the game from a perspective other than Snake did a lot of goods to the series. Not only does it make you appreciate Snake a lot more, if the story had been told from his perspective, it would have been hard to make you shallow that Snake and Otacon duo know nothing.
