Looking at getting this eventually. Was mainly wondering if Platinum avoided the pitfall they had with Vanquish where it had a slow 'story' section in first-person between act segments that worked as a disguised load time, and was unskippable. It really hampered the pacing of the game for me.

beginning of each act usually has codec talk that youre forced to walk really really slow through. but once the loading is actually done, you can speed up the dialog.

Yeah you can, you'll see the triangle button appear after loading finishes.

Is the story for this one a stand-alone? Its not really connected to other MGS titles, right?

Sundown and others mention after SOP going down in 4, 4 years ago, being their main cause. And you saw how Raiden became the Cyborn Ninja in 4...so in a way it was all leading towards global cybrogs. It's still a spin-off but does sort of fit in-verse.

Managed to S rank every fight in Mission 1 on Revengeance, including Mistral despite getting hit a few times. Results screen comes up, I look at the top and see S S S S - S - S S S

FUCK. I forgot about that. I might need to stop doing Revengeance and just learn where all the encounters are, because otherwise I don't think I'm ever getting S rank. Ranking system is so annoying.

Yeah, Monsoon is easily my favourite boss and the best in the game. About to go in on this bitch on Revengeance, can't fucking waaaaait.

As for the Sai I use them mostly for choppers. Everything else just doesn't seem entirely worth it when you could be using the other unique weps, but I haven't gone through with the Sai to properly see how it handles against each and every enemy, just that it's really good for choppers.

loving this game so far. only thing that i absolutely hate is the stupid left-stick-mash prompts for getting out of stuns/attacks, which seem to require a ridiculous amount of effort to pass.

How many easter egg type findables are in the game? I've found four so far.
I've found 3 lingerie/bathing suit wearing women posters and 1 cardboard cutout that changes how it looks if you zandetsu it.
cardboard lady is at the start of file 3 once you get into the office building
1st poster I found was in one of the office building in the section where you have to blow up the three hidden control panels
2nd is right behind where you start off File 3
3rd right on top of the stairs and to the right immediately before Sam appears on all the monitors.
oh, and also in the tutorial, one of the cutout things is holding a hostage. if you cut her she's changed as well.

Really? For me it was the opposite. The game was damn chaotic most of the time that I never thought about it. I need to pick it back up, I love the shit out of Vanquish. I wish it wasn't such a sleeper.

and yeah, I still can't do shit against Mastiffs. 1v1 is fine, but every time I fight two at a time, especially in cramped quarters where the camera keeps fucking me over, they end up taking a majority of my health packs.
currently stuck on Very Hard on the elevator as I'm trying to reach Sundowner. Hammer dude first soawns and I can normally take him out in a few seconds, but then 3 birds and two Mastiffs spawn and then I'm just fucked because I currently don't even have a single med kit on me.
They make it impossible to get away from yellow attacks.

And I still have no idea how to actually get out of stun lock or Mastiff holds as I apparently can only get myself out of one of their holds a quarter of the time.
I try leaving the birds so I can get health back during the fight, but if I leave them, I only end up dying faster.

That fight is particularly hard, I can only suggest trying to take out the birds asap (Sai might help) because they're the ones likely doing a lot of unnecessary damage and sometimes those gay rockets can fuck you over. Try using fully upgraded, charged pincer attacks as well, those usually stagger enemies and interrupt their yellow moves.

Other than that, I dunno. I gave up trying to S rank chapter 4 because that shit is HARD and that fight was a massive blur to me lol. Just getting through the level is challenging enough.
