It takes a bit of practice but once you get used to it shit just clicks and makes sense. It's basically tapping square and pushing the stick in the direction of the attack in the same way. Really easy to show someone but a little harder to describe.

ya I'm slowly getting better. One thing that kinda bugs me is is there a way to learn the button commands that activate new unlcoked skills? Some are intuitive like X+direction for the dashing evasion thingie but others I don't get, I unlocked the storm kick and I don't know how to use it
Going to the menu, they have a move list in there.
infinite emp grenades is so broken. massive range and stuns pretty much every enemy in the game for 5+ secs. works on bosses too lol
Am I the only one that kind of sucks at this game? I think I'm getting better, but I wasn't expecting to struggle so much because I play DMC games pretty well and I'm no stranger to this franchise.
Lock-on helps, but it doesn't actually work very well with the camera, and as a result, parrying things still isn't consistent for me. Also, sometimes in Zandatsu the camera is aimed too high and I'm whiffing.
Having fun, but geez, can't believe you guys are getting S ranks on high difficulty and shit. I guess I just suck. I'm on Chapter 2 in the sewers for reference
You're not the only one. I completed the game on hard, but I don't think I ever threw so many fucks around when playing. Some of the parts and bosses just gave me horrible headaches. I'm now giving the game a couple days of rest, because I started Very Hard and already wanted to throw my controller at Metal Gear![]()
If you are fighting more than 1 enemy and you are locking on, you're doing it wrong.
Only thing you should use lock-on for in non 1v1 fights is to cancel
and even in some 1v1 fights.
Yeah, since parrying is direction dependent locking on to an enemy can give you inconsistent results as the enemies move around and change the camera. Without locking on you can control the camera better and know which general direction you need to parry in. Naturally if you get surrounded and attacked at the same time you're screwed (unless you DOOOOOOODGE) so mostly it's keeping aware of enemies around you.
Also on harder modes more than 1 enemy can attack and they attack more relentlessly (I love this, since it means even normal enemies can fuck you up if you aren't careful) so getting surrounded is an easy way to get raped.
As for blade mode, when your PFC is full it slows down time for a moment, at least until you make a definitive cut to grab their souls/cores/hearts. Generally if you're in the air you can only reliably cut the person in front of you for a limited time. For best results blade mode use it on the ground, and find moments in your combos when you can blade mode easily.
Also, I wouldn't recommend playing on anything higher than hard first time through unless you know what to expect from this sort of game (lots of retries and trial/error).
If you unlock the blow back move (back foward light attack) its useful for giving yourself breathing room. It even slows down time a bit and works on most enemies.
To be perfectly honest the harder difficulties kinda reveal the games flaws, especially revengeance mode. I'm currently halfway through my S rank revengeance playthru (File004) and ALOT of the ranked fights are luck based to not get hit. Especially the ones with Mastiffs in them (pounced from one side of a building to the other on your face lol). Sure most fights can be consistently S ranked but a few are gonna always be trial n error (2 GRADs at once). Not to mention, I'm not even sure if its possible to S rank revengeance without using Infinity Wig A (infinite ammo) because for a few sections its pretty much required (GRAD @ start of File 004, emp grenades + homing missile).
Also dont be too worried about ranks, generally the only difference between a B and an S is taking no damage.
Its not luck, get gud scrub.
Not luck, use ripper mode. Especially against grads...dont fuck around with em.
Dont have a problem with GRADs at all. The one i was referring to u have to use the missile launcher to kill so... ripper mode doesnt exactly help. Im also not using the autowin fox blade
And yeah, theres actually only 2-3 fights so far that make me rage... all in file 003/004
There's a grad you have to use a missile launcher to kill? The only encounter I remember needing sub weapons a little was uhh...beginning of file 4? I remember clearing that with the mounted gun because I distinctly remember running out of missiles lol.
Still S ranked it as well, ripper mode OP son.
Love this shit!
Just finished my S rank Revengeance playthrough.
Game is so addicting, just need the codec trophy and I'll have the platinum.
