I don't think I've ever actually had a confirmed spider bite. Plenty of suspicious marks, but never a double-puncture that I felt immediately (spider venom, unlike mosquito saliva, is not an anaesthetic). Lots of centipede stings, though. Those fuckers are mean. Probably shouldn't pick them up.

They go beyond what is shown on that map. My brother's ex was bitten years ago(probably a good 13+ years) on the back of her upper thigh. She had a massive circle of just black/dead skin taking up most of the back of her thigh afterwards. It was quite nasty. Given we do live not far from the "expansion" area of that map. South eastern PA.

I remember going to NEED camp back in 6th grade and them being on the "avoid" list of critters at Hawk Mountain. I've never personally seen one, and I hope never to.

While not poisonous, this is something I didn't want to find crawling around in my house. The fangs on the sucker are more than enough to intimidate me. It was pretty much half dead when I found it walking along the woodwork as the cats had gotten to it. Was about an inch from front to back legs.
It's a spider, by the way.

One time I got a spider bite in between my knuckles while sitting in class. it looks cool though when it swells up and you see the fang marks.

Found one of those last year... think I posted it here. Was a mature male, though, and they don't live long, so I fed it and released it outside. They're actually really common, but nocturnal and only feed on isopods, so they're rarely seen. Also, there's no such thing as a non-venomous spider. Most are just too weak to affect humans. (harvestmen and solpugids/"camel spiders" are not spiders)

    edit:found it

What happened in the final spider bite picture? How did it get so big of a wound.

I meant mostly in the way of, "it poses no real threat to a human other than a rather itchy annoying bite," unlike the brown recluse. We're pretty sure it's what got a bite in on my sister who was staying with us at the time before the cats got it.

The venom fucks up the way cells die, the body is unaware the cells die so you end up with a bunch (lots) of dead tissue.

Also, treatment for a necrotic wound = maggots. They leave the healthy tissue alone.

    oh man lol

"When a Camel Spider bites, it injects you with a Novocain type drug that instantly "numbs" your skin and the surrounding tissue. You can't even tell you've been bitten while you're sleeping. When you wake up, you find part of your leg or arm severely chewed because the Camel Spider has been gnawing on it ... all night long!"

I like that he put "numbs" in quotes. Because it doesn't numb your skin, it "numbs" it.

That's pretty bad ass for a non-poisonous spider.
got bitten on the foot by a funnel web when i was little, wasn't fun. Nearest hospital with anti-venom was 40km away but I was lucky the bite didn't penetrate deep enough. Would've been dead in 30mins if it had lol.
