and no, this isnt fanfiction, it was established mostly during i, jedi and the subsequent books with corran horn and the guy from the dark forces games. they were both considered "grey" jedi but still were regarded as masters and sat on the jedi council

I think the implication is that the past 15 years or so of SW books/comics/other crap might as well be fanfiction if you look at the low quality

hence the vong invasion, which was a story line initiated by lucas himself with his team on the books to put the quality of the novels back up there with the original released ones. its why they started with a book from timothy zahn, who overlooked and approved the entire story sequence
there was a timeline of books that were considered canon, non-canon, and portions of them are canon, I cant find it to save my life but I do know that the entire republic commando series was retconned to turn mandolorians into giant pussys so I dont read star wars books anymore

that last sentence is my issue with SW books as they stand now. I love having Zahn write novels, but when they make 2nd/3rd tier writers like Allston shoulder a heavy load in fleshing out story lines everyone suffers.
