ITT non-muslims speculating on what muslims are actually like.
FFS, Elvis. Understand what you read before insulting people.
1. Then everyone is a bigot. There are plenty of ideologies and philosophies that are disgusting to many. Religion doesn't get a special status just because they ask for it. I can (and do) hate both the bible or Atlas Shrugged; but I'll only get called a bigot for the former... that's the textbook definition of hypocrisy.
And I'm pretty sure bigotry involves hating people, not ideas. You can double check definitions if you want, though.
In fact, Merriam-Webster says: "Bigot: aperson who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance."
So, yeah, "Islam" and "Christianity" are not members of a racial or ethnic group.
2. Good, good. Then you might just understand that the reaction was standing up for freedom of speech. Provocative drawings are done to show the drawer won't give in to terrorism, I'd say.
It's a Streisand effect, if you will.
3. They can react however the fuck they want, but issuing death threats is beyond the scope of "moderate".
No one said they had to like it (though they can, and there sure are muslims capable of a bit of self-mockery). I don't like half of what Ratzinger says, but I'm not going to issue death threats or even ask for his censorship; the lunatic is free to spout whatever he wants.
Ok, wrong person. Not idea who Gellar is, then.
No that's Megyn Kelly.
Speaking of people who deserve everything that happens to them; someone threw a grenade in Belgium.
If I think the Jedi ideology is for pussies, am I a bigot?
Belgium. Definitely deserved it.
BROWN PEOPLE
Some Italian fascist also killed some black people. Also deserved it.
1. Semantics. The meaning is the same. Dictionary.com defines bigotry more explicitly as intolerance or hatred of CREEDS different than one's own.
Click your fingers together and look it up yourself.
There is a difference objecting to religious extremism, objecting to religion in general or being completely indifferent as opposed to HATING said religion.
2. No, since as another poster stated - the extremists are upset over any and all drawings.
Hence, the vulgar drawings - which is the issue we've been discussing - are simply vulgar drawings. It's beyond the principled stance of the organizers. It's hateful and bigoted. Though, since you are both hateful and a bigot, I see why you fail to grasp that.
3. For the last time, we are not talking about the extremists.
1. Well, yes, the Merriam-Webster definition is strangely restrictive. And yes, it's semantics, but you asked for them. Still, massive difference you're still not getting: hating a religion/creed/philosophy/idea and hating its members/adherents/proponents.
We all routinely declare ideas to be anathema and rarely does that correlate to actual hatred of the individuals that suscribe to them
The colloquialism goes "hate the disease, not the patients." Cheesy, but no less valid.
The point is that religion shouldn't be some sacred cow you can't critisize or even mock just because the religious ask for it.
2. Pretty ironic of you to call others bigots. Pretty usual of you to resort to insults to mask your limitations.
3. Wow. First time I see Elvis ever conceding anything.
If anyone's wondering what Kuya was alluding to: here.
There is a difference between criticizing Islam and debasing Islam. The vulgar drawings of Mohammed go beyond the scope of 'criticism'. You can disagree with an ideology but be respectful of its adherents (who aren't trying to blow you up) by not drawing their prophet with "dicks in his mouth."
My 'limitations'? You are referring to various Israel-Palestine threads where you said something stupid and were promptly called stupid. The arguments I made in the past are sufficient so I won't reiterate.
Either you are reasonable and refrain from semantics regarding bigotry towards religious beliefs (and not fairies, Harry Potter, Star Wars and Twilight - which we all know is true anyway) or you aren't.
And finally, I am not conceding anything here because in the exchange with 'hey', I was talking about Lowes recent controversy with the show "All-American Muslim." I was never talking about offending extremists.
The point is that the vulgar drawings were superfluous. They only antagonize people who may otherwise pay the movement no attention. You keep missing that point.
I can. I don't draw pedoprophet, dicks in mouth or not. But if someone decides to, I'm not going to threaten him.
No, I'm not. But I'm quite sure you're itching to unearth your usual. Your Dunning-Kruger isn't getting any better since then, though.Originally Posted by Elvis

The decision by Lowes to remove its ads from a show about an average, boring Muslim-American family due to the rantings and hysteria of a right-wing Evangelical Christian group (extremists) is a testament to the growing Islamophobia in our country.
So its cute you respect the right to draw Mohammed as a pig, but I don't sympathize. It is the right of whoever and that's great if you enjoy spending your time drawing dicks in someone's mouth.
It doesn't change the fact that the people being offended are not your supposed 'target' audience.
You should read the two posts between 'hey' and I. Then shut up with this 'conceding' claim.
I must be an idiot then, because at first glance it does look eerily similar to two towers imploding. After more scrutiny it is an awesome architectural design. However, I wasn't offended by the image at any point in time.
It does resemble the exploding towers. People just want to be hipsters and deny it. Having said that, it's stupid to be offended by it and to think it was designed that way on purpose.
Westboro church assholes is a good example of when freedom of speech goes wrong.
ITT: religious special pleading. How shocking and unexpected.
