This is the story of a man, a man so ordinary he is most assuredly indistinguishable at first glance. His demeanor and appearance are as uninspiring as his name. But he is no man, he is Ish!
Ish has sailed the open seas for as long as he cared to dream. Amongst the open air Ish lives quietly with his trusty fishing rod in tow at the tail end of his majestic ship. The apocalypse on land is a distant memory, how many years had it been, three? five? eight?
The end of the world mattered no longer to Ish; with the Sun always willing to batter his face, time had ruined his once youthful look. He grew skinny and frail, tanned to the bone. One could say he no longer was a man of the land, but a Man of the Sea!
Men of the Sea are notorious folk, ever so powerful and unassuming, their cares tended to their ship and their ship alone. But Ish is a man of the Sea through circumstance alone. Wishing ever to see mankind once again, he makes the decision of his life.
With a hard turn to port-side Ish unleashes the winds to sail him towards the Eastern seaboard. His destination matters not, only land does Ish seek. Land approached rapidly, and Ish, without a wanting for returning to the sea, matched the incoming land stride for stride. The impact was over quickly. With his hands still firmly grasped to the ship's steering wheel, Ish had joined humanity once again.
With his majestic ship now locked onto shore for eternity, Ish wrote a final solemn goodbye: "Please don't smash my skull with your foot". But this is not a tale of some weak-frailed man lost to the apocalypse, this is a tale of Ish, the Man of the Sea!
"Where shall I venture forth?" Ish pondered in his head. There is no greater place to repose for men such as Ish but in the sewers, where both shelter and water roll hand in hand. Upon entering the sewers Ish, with his voice unacustomed to speech, bellowed "THIS'LL DO NICELY". Hark! Alas, poor Ish had met his fate, as ten Clickers descended upon him to meet his end. But this is not a tale of some weak-frailed man lost to the apocalypse, this is a tale of Ish, the Man of the Sea!
Men like Ish, they are no ordinary men, with the strength equalling forty men Ish destroyed the ten Clickers, each crushed into infinitesimal pieces by the palms of his very hands. Once he cleared his new home, Ish continued his original search: to once again join humanity.
Ish had made a most foul choice. In his absence from society, lost to the waves of the Sea, Ish forgot the cardinal rule: never trust a man named Kyle. For it was this very name of the man Ish had first gazed upon from his sewers, and might finally be the end of Ish as we know it.
For Kyle was also no ordinary man. This land-lubbering, paunchy-pribbling, milk-livered, plum-plucked, mugger-hugger only cared for himself and little of his family. With his doors bolted shut, and with his neighbours used for his own protection, Kyle sat comfortably in his own home. But Kyle had a problem: looters had reached his once safe ward community. No longer could Kyle sit idly by as the world turned to shreds. Seeing a frail, Sun-soaked man popping his head out of the sewers time and again, Kyle knew advantage when he saw one.
Their relationship was originally platonic. Kyle traded food to Ish, as Ish could no longer survive on gifts of the Sea, and in return Kyle received tools and weapons forged by the tanned fists of Ish. At first Kyle used these tools for himself, to find different ways to eat without having to get off the couch, but the looters soon became too much.
With a chance to meet humanity firsthand once again, the two formed an unlikely bond together in the sewers. At first glance it was a merry and welcomed sight. Kyle had brought his wife and two daughters; they were of little note, forced to eat the crumbs dropped by their pompous father, but Ish saw great things in one, Susan.
Over time everyone forgot the Clickers. No longer did they have to cower in fear from looters. They had a system in the sewers, a system of trust and obedience. This is what Ish craved most, to be a part of society is to follow its norms, and Ish followed Kyle's every beck and call.
Kyle, in his ever increasing desires to sustain his lust, had given his wife the pains of bearing triplets. Her life caved within her, and quietly became mad, losing sight of life. With so many children at hand Ish became a father figure to these children, and with him, Susan became a mother figure.
Their love for each other grew in the normalcy of raising children, but had to always be kept silent, lest Kyle, the mewling, clay-brained, unchin-snouted, boar-pig were to catch them in the act. Their most precious moments, were the five seconds Kyle had to scrub his hair in the shower (sometimes he went six seconds, but no one ever complained!). For in this brief moment Ish could gaze into Susan's eyes, and her into his.
Tragedy struck. Kyle, with his ever so imperceptible brain, left the door open to the outside world. There was little time to react. The Clickers came in droves. The triplets were in the playroom at the time, and Kyle hurried his bug-bitten butt there to cower in shame. His wife was the first to go. "I'LL SEE YOU IN HELL!" she yelled to Kyle, her first and only vengeful cry towards a man who thought of nothing but himself.
Susan was prepared to meet her end, save for the power of one man: Ish. Unbeknownst to her up to that day, Ish was no ordinary man, but a man of the Sea! Cracking Clicker skulls like nobodies business, Ish forced his way to save the triplets, when suddenly: "BANG, BANG, BANG". Kyle had struck.
As his youngest children lay dead, Ish knew there was no saving the man he once called friend. With Susan's sister nowhere to be found, Ish and Susan left Kyle to wail, wail as the Clickers set in for one final meal.
This was not Ish's day to die. No, there was no time to mourn either. With quick haste Ish and Susan went into an abandoned home. It was the home of Susan's best friend when they were once kids a lifetime ago.
Clickers had heard them enter. From outside they came. From downstairs they came. Ish and Susan raced upstairs to write their final goodbyes. This will be the site of their final resting place.
Or was it? Ish, ever the man, grabbed Susan as she held tightly unto her note and jumped out the window as Clickers raged in. Two stories they fell. Landing on three Clicker's soft mooshy heads to soften the blow, Ish carried Susan to safety.
It took 82 days to travel from the lonely Suburbs of Pittsburgh to Mexico. Thankfully the boarder remained intact; what once failed to protect illegal immigrants from entering the US of A, now protects the infected from coming out. Also Canada was safe because they built a force field.
Here Ish would remain, basking in the Sun once again. Ish, the man of the Sea, his frail arms still giving the strength of forty men, lived to the ripe old age of 182. He had 18 children with Susan, 92 Grand children, 460 Great-Grand children, and many many many Great-Great-Grand Children and then some.
Each child was forty times stronger than the next. Soon they became an army, one that entered the US of A, and exterminated each and every last infected human. There was much joy and fanfare, as Ish's family single-handily saved the world from extinction.
Our Man of the Sea, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on land as it is on Sea!
Praise Ish, Savior of the World!
