I give blood on a regular basis. I'm type O so they love me. I usually don't check off on the marrow thing and it's not really explained, and I don't bother asking. If there's a possibility of compensation for it now, shit I'll ask and more than likely check the box.

I'm type O positive and I would consider donating blood, plasma, bone marrow, but I'm one of those filthy gays with an "unhealthy lifestyle" so its up to all you breeders.

I think that this is a great step in the right direction, there's nothing wrong with compensating for marrow or organ donations. It's a disgrace it didn't happen sooner as thousands of people withered away under such constraints.

Um, the crucial difference here is that bone marrow regenerates and it's not a major surgery to donate it (it's not trivial either but yeah). There are only a limited number of donateable organs, people don't regrow kidneys, and because of that scarcity if they were available on the free market the only people to get kidney donations would be the wealthy - which is fucked up.

People should be able to donate portions of their livers I think considering it is the only organ that does regenerate. Anything else I completely agree.

Yeah I was going to say, isn't donating marrow a fucking painful process? If I have the chance to do it, and get paid for it, it better be the top dollar that only the rich can afford.

Why would the rich be paying you in the first place? I doubt they'll set this up for direct donor-to-recipient transactions. You'd likely donate to some generic pool of marrow and get paid at donation, they won't even know who the recipient will be, yet. You'll get paid the same as any other donor, and your marrow won't cost the recipient any more than anyone else's marrow.

This is the company's site that I registered with when I gave blood. It gives more info on anyone that wants to know more about the procedure, and if you want to find somewhere to get on their list. I signed up a couple of years ago, never been called. Definitely think that the option to compensate people for doing this isn't necessarily a bad idea.
