    Learning guitar? I wrote a book (` - `)b

hey guys - just finished this all up this week. It's been a TON of work, and currently it's available in digital form. I might make some minor adjustments to it and go the real-life route with the book, but that's a little bit down the road.

the book is A++++++++. I keep a low profile, but playing guitar is my biggest passion and is something that I do every day. love it. i think it's especially good for intermediate players (i've been advanced for a little while now - the line is arbitrary but that's how I'd categorize myself). beginners will get a lot out of it, too, but they probably wont have the fingers to get as much at once out of it as an intermediate or early advanced player would. if you're pretty deep into composition and theory, some of this might be backpedaling but there also might be some use in it. can't be 100% sure.

i'm not so great at making sales pages yet (never been much of a salesman), but the first page is up @

    http://guitaristlifestyle.com/guitaristmanual

    ^ click da link

it's $10.95 but BG gets a discount (` - `) should be $7.95 with code bluegartr, just tested it and it worked.

idk how my payment processors handle international stuff yet, but i'm about to go to sleep and im gonna handle a lot of that nonsense tomorrow. wanted to post to a couple of forums first, though.

I think the sales page is alright, but I'm still going to do a lot of work on it. If you have any suggestions or anything like that, i'm totally open to them. even if you think it sucks - its cool, just let me know why you think it sucks so i can work on that shit. this is a long term project for me.

you can ask me any questions that you have or anything like that and i'll answer you - the book is legit, you have my word. if you decide to check it out, please let me know in this thread. i like knowing who my readers are. there's a lot more information posted on the sales page though and my wrist wants a break from typing for the day, it's been 15hrs~.

checked the rules - don't think it's against the terms to post this but hey, if admins have a problem with it let me know. it's a good book though so if you do decide that you don't like the thread right away, if you could at least let it ride out until a few people verify that it's a good book, that would be sweet.

    thanks
    -Adam

p.s. if you guys want, i can post the introduction. it doesn't have a lot of infos but i like it

From reading the title of this thread ("Learning guitar?") and then looking at the webpage itself, I see what appears to be a mismatch. You're not teaching someone to learn guitar, but rather, you want to help them refine practicing—something that's related to "learning guitar," surely, but it won't teach them the fundamentals or get them started.

Thus, the title of this thread is technically correct—if someone's learning guitar, a way to perfect their practicing may be useful—but if someone wants to learn how to play a guitar, your book, presumably, is not a starting point.

    Is this correct?

I checked out the page, might check it out after the holidays. I've been playing guitar for around 10-12 years now, and I really have never been able to get very good, so this might be just what I need.

I have played in a few bands with friends, just rhythm mostly. Since I moved away from most of my friends that I used to play with I haven't really touched my guitars.

You really need to post a sample of your book (3-4 pages picked randomly). I personally would never purchase something like this unless I had a good idea of the content quality and overall presentation.

I believe in business that helps people, not business that spins its wheels to turn a profit. I have no interest in investing all of my time to take your money from you – you might need to pay rent too. If you’re working wages and make $8/hr, and this book only saves you 10 hours, it’ll have a net value of $80.00 to you
Might be just me, but this statement make you sound like an infomercial more than anything. It might works on the Walmart crowd, but it's a giant turn off for me since it sound so fake and artificial.

If you want to convince people, focus on your experience as a guitarist. Don't praise your product directly, convince people that they should trust you instead.

This would be a definite plus to anyone looking to buy. A page count would also be a good thing to include in your description.

yo i was being serious ; ; alright though, i can see how that might translate that way. i dont like talking about my experience or anything because i feel like im bragging, i'd rather let people know what the book is because I know what's out there, and relatively speaking I know this is a better buy. it's a really ugly line to cross, but I've got bills & a hernia+some mysterious upper abdominal bulge so I don't really have a choice other than to hammer out my marketing skills solo.

ill pick out like 5 or 6 pages, no worries on that one. ty4suggestions. most of the writing done is professional quality, it's been proofread but after the blindspots i've had with this book (sentence 1 of the intro, after i'd read it like 30 times. forgetting the letter "a" yet everybody else sees it in like 3 seconds...), i assume there might be a couple that slipped by but at this point i'm more inclined to believe that they're pretty minor.

@kohan: im not exactly sure what you're asking lol. learning guitar = practice+awareness, the book includes both. there are a LOT of fundamentals offered that will lift up a beginner but like...if you dont know what a fret or a fretboard is, you can go figure that shit out for free in like 10 seconds. i don't want to charge someone for that or subject the intermediate~early advanced level dudes to skipping through the first 30 pages.

shit, forgot to put analytics back on the page after i changed the sales page name lol. got a sale but idk where it came from.

edit: this is the first draft of the page btw, if it grows proportionally to the book it's gonna be a monster in a couple of weeks

edit2: gfdi and i forgot to set up the links at the bottom of the page too

There is no simply way to reach everyone. What you wrote on that page is fine and will most likely work, it's just that I always preferred more personal approach (which was the point of my last post). Your 2nd paragraph in this thread was more convincing for me than the other page.

And I agree that bragging isn't better, but I don't think it has to cross that line either. Just need to pick the right wording.

That's easy Sean. My cousin's a big A7X fan and can play those solos at 13? I don't know how old he is.

If you're not being serious, then that's ok too. I'm not an A7X fan but I will acknowledge that dude can play fast.

If that is included on the book somewhere I will probably pay $11 for it instead of $8
