Are you really worried that Iran poses much of a threat to the US?

What would prevent him from doing that? He doesn't have to pass a bill through congress to be commander in chief of the military. The only way that is prevented is if he compromises on his principles, and he has quite the track record of not doing that.

Ron Paul does not even like the idea that you need a license to get married. He says that who and what you are doing to your life partner should be totally transparent to the government.

You think the military is really gonna allow Paul to declare overseas operations are over and revert us to an isolationist nation? It's not going to happen. Thousands of servicemen would be out of a job, upper-echelon members of the DoD and their contractor buddies wouldn't stand for it and the CIA certainly wouldn't agree with this upsetting of the status quo.

It's a nice dream that Congressman Paul has but it'd never happen. He'll be forced to concede that desire.

My point is those collected groups couldn't legally stop him if it is what he decided to do. But since you're saying he'd compromise his values despite not having to, that's an interesting opinion.

No, he just thinks that the option to regulate/ban marriage belongs to the states, like everything else.

I wonder how he feels about the Civil Rights Act.

    This is a serious question.

"Shutting down military bases and ceasing to deal with other nations with threats and violence is not isolationism, it is the opposite. Opening ourselves up to friendship, honest trade and diplomacy is the foreign policy of peace and prosperity. It is the only foreign policy that will not bankrupt us in the short order, as our current actions most definitely will. I share the disappointment of the American people in the foreign policy rhetoric coming from the administration. The sad thing is that our foreign policy will change eventually, as Rome’s did, when all budgetary and monetary tricks to fund it are exhausted." -Ron Paul

I don't think he wanted to close the base, he just wanted to close the prison. The problem then became trying the terrorists in civilian courts, not closing the base.

This is flowerful language for "Ron Paul can't be wrong because his positions are based off truth."

That's something you have to prove, not assert.

Ron Paul says that his personal beliefs are never to be imposed on somebody else... Ron Paul presents the truths including that which overlaps with his beliefs, but he does not argue beliefs where truths are not present.
That would mean that every policy decision he makes is completely founded on truth because otherwise he would be imposing his beliefs about the role of government on others.

But that can't happen unless Ron is omniscient. Numerous policy decisions have to be made on predictive beliefs about what will be the correct option.

That is the whole reason why Presidents do not merely get elected to do enforce direct democracy on whatever is or isn't popular. Part of the election is about electing a President who has the authority to exercise judgment as a representative of democracy.

I'd go as far to say those groups wouldn't let it happen and yes, I'm implying what you think I'm implying.

No his problem was funding the transfer of detainees.

The reason why Presidents are elected is that people are corruptable and thus needs to be removed from office for that. That's why the US do not have a dictatorship, else an all-knowing uncorruptable prophet should rule indefinatly.

What the hell are you talking about - worse than Obama? What has our foreign policy been under Obama?

And sanctions are a kind of 'force' (see: the Iraq sanctions). We surround Iran. Our beef with them is for influence in the region.
