Not defending Ron Paul but I agree not voting for him because of this one fact is retarded. All the Republican candidates have at least one belief that is retarded, come to think of it so does the Democratic candidate. The fact of the matter is that a large portion of this country believes in an invisible unicorn running around that causes all sorts of stuff. If we want to get past that then we need some real candidates which won't happen while the majority of this country believes in invisible unicorns or we need to get past the irrational beliefs the candidates do have and pay attention to how they will actually run the country.

but almost all things can be argued. Creationism and a literal translation of the bible literally means you don't care about facts or evidence and your own personal beliefs are more more important.

He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch. Don't really know what this means.
Giving the president more power to do shit without having to go through Congress or the Supreme Court.

Except it's not just one thing. It shows a clear inability to look at even the simplest of evidence and come to a realistic conclusion. If he cannot find the right answer when it is so easy to find, how can we expect him to do so when the answer is not so obvious?

I completely agree. You guys are misinterpreting what I said. I am pointing out that by the same token Romney and Perry are just as bad with respect to believing bullshit in the face of evidence. Wasn't it Perry who said he openly believes in creationism and wants it taught in schools? (I don't follow the Republican crap that closely so I forget if it was him.) If you discount Ron Paul for that reason then you pretty much have to exclude all presidential candidates in my opinion.

Creationism and Religion in general are nowhere near the same level of crazy. Believing in an invisible unicorn that may have some subtle influence on daily life or the overall course of mankind is hardly comparable to believing that the Earth is 6,000 years old.

Besides, creationism aside, his policies are still a terrible clash between "Hey that's awesome" and "That's fucking horrible", to the point where it's almost worth preserving the fucking terrible status quo just to avoid the absolute bullshit that would come along with the good in Paul.

Also, if Test starts one more post with Ron Paul this or Ron Paul that, I might have to punch something. Fucking obvious troll is fucking obvious.

It pretty much excludes all republicans and half of democrats. It's a good first test to see who I am going to vote for

Exactly. That was the point I was trying to make. And I use the same "litmus" test as well. Though it gets really hard since religion permeates lolpolitics so much and even if a logical candidate showed up they would have to pretend to believe and let those beliefs influence their decisions to even stand a chance.

I support some of Ron Paul's ideas, but I'm on the left wing. If he wins the republican nomination, it will be a hard choice for me. I find that Obama is way more conservative than what I want. I want the war on drugs to end, which Ron Paul will do. I want imperialism to end, which Ron Paul will do. I'm sick of my friends being shipped off to pointless wars and having to worry about them getting shot at just for trying to get out of poverty.

However, I don't support cutting taxes, and I don't support cutting public sector jobs, and I do not support the gold standard. However, Ron Paul is a little bit reasonable and there are checks and balances in place, so hopefully if he got elected, Congress and the supreme court would handle it. I personally think that reasonable challenging ideas are good to move the debate, and thats not what the rest of the clowns in the republican race are, reasonable.

I would love for Ron Paul to debate Obama. It would force Obama to accept some of Paul's more reasonable ideas, or he will lose the race. Hopefully one of those ideas is ending the drug war, which is a huge issue for me. If Obama refused to budge on that, I'd consider Paul as a single issue voter.

He doesn't believe in the separation of church and state. And he's a creationist.

My main con with Paul is that he wants to cut Taxes. In fact, all of the Republicans do. Economically this isn't a sound idea. If the government wants to do something, they have to sell bonds (borrow the money). The problem is that this raises interest rates on the bonds if there is less revenue coming in, which turns into a vicious cycle. Its not a sound economic policy. Some taxes have to come in.

But on the bright side he does take state in that statement literally which means if he was president we would only have to avoid states in the bible belt. There would still be some states that would be ok. I wonder what would happen if all rights were given over to the states and the federal government stayed out of it, how long would we be a country? I bet it wouldn't take too long before the populations moved around until all the states were even more polarized.

It just seems rather silly to me. For 200 years atheists in this country have been saying, "Yes, I am an atheist but don't judge me by my belief system, judge me by my track record." Now the pendulum has swung the other way and I think if we can't judge someone by their track record rather than by their beliefs then we are no different from those who would refuse to vote for an atheist (or mormon, or hindu, or w/e).

The bottom line is that not very many policies are influenced by someones belief system. Things like gun control, attacking Iran, bailing out banks, and campaign finance reform have nothing to do with that. And of the things that do (gay marriage, abortion, etc) Ron Paul has been playing the 'states rights' card for awhile so he wouldn't really have any sway there either. I'm not ready to vote for him just yet. But it just feels like he is the only one on stage that isn't completely owned by Exxon and Haliburton and if that ends up being the case I'm not going to vote for someone else just because the guy goes to church on Sundays.

There's a difference between going to church, and being so stupid that you can ignore hundreds of years worth of proven science, and think you're right and everyone else is wrong, based on absolutely nothing.

It's not about their beliefs, it's about the logic that was used to reach those beliefs.
