What caused boredom in school for me was repetition. I want to hear something once then move on, not repeat it five fucking times till every idiot in the class gets it. I think this goes for most of the people complaining about the school system not being challenging. It has nothing to do with being genius or not doing shit.

I guess what pisses me off is that I'd expecting saying something like that around here wouldn't be met with the usual "who the fuck do you think you are" attitude.

I don't think people are arguing or supporting the grand American education system (or other applicable ones I guess) so much as the smug haughty attitude presented.

It's like, okay yeah, most people are bored during school. That doesn't make you a genius. That makes you a child. Also the people going LOL I NEVER WENT TO A SINGLE CLASS AND KNEW EVERYTHING. Like, yeah okay, I don't entirely buy that scenario. You skipped a bunch of school, cool. I did too (to camp fucking Tiamat awwwwh yeahhhhh) but you know fucking what I didn't know shit about chemistry when I walked into class. It's like you can't magically know something (to borrow a phrase from Ivve); you had to have been taught at some point and I'm not certain what defines a genius but someone who is taught something outside of school is not inherently smarter than someone taught something in school.

People claiming to know something without being taught inside or outside of school are liars, unless you're talking about breathing or whatevs.

i suspect that the concept of being "gifted" has been appropriately dumbed down, along with the rest of standards in school. possessing enough intelligence not to need to have things repeated 50x is not above average. it's average. most people don't require the degree of repetition that goes on in school. it's just a system that panders to the dumbest people present. nowhere else will you find a system that stops everyone else from progressing because a couple of people don't get it. in the rest of life, we call that "too fucking bad dumbass."
