My wife and I. 1600 square ft apartment. two computers always running, a lot of TV.

runs about 110 on avg in the summer, about 95 in winter.

why you ask? Because my wife is a fucking AC nazi, yells at me if the AC is running for more than 30 minutes in the middle of fucking July in Florida.

lol that suuucks. Summer months in apartments in Tallahassee ran us about 200 in a 1100 sq ft apartment. Electricity in FL is expensive, but not 500/mo expensive.

When I lived alone I never really ran the heat or AC, so my bills were insanely low. Normally the fees, hookup charges, taxes, etc..., were at least 50% of the bill. Some different variables:

•When I had Gas and Electric, both were around $15-20/month each. Running a PC, 360, TV, and some lights.
•Electric only place I paid about $25-$40 per month, year round. Running PC, 360, TV, and some lights.
•Current place, electric only with a loft, cathedral ceilings, and horrible windows/insulation. We pay about $90/month in the spring/autumn, and $150-$170/month when we need to run the heat or AC. I live with the GF, so she sets the AC to be insanely cold. Running PC, laptop, TV, and a lot more lights.

Buy one of these. It will save you a lot during the winter. I have had one for years and I love it. Just one of these can keep a large room toasty warm.

2 laptops, ps3, and a tv running all day long every day. Run the dishwasher 6 times a week, do 3-4 loads of laundry a week. Cook dinner at home 5-6 times a week. We dont run the AC much. Was $90 last month. Was up to 140ish when we ran the AC during the summer.

Used to live in Hernando county, was pretty similar prices there.

Cannot believe some of the numbers here. Columbus, American Electric, 2 bedroom apt, got shit plugged in all over the place fridge/freezer, TV, several game systems, phones etc all with those vampire nodes and TV/systems often on, never paid more than 45 bucks yet I think. That's just for power though, but the gas bill has been 20-40 as well (thinking it's going to be a mite higher now that we have the heater on so much )

When I was by myself during summer
(mostly just PC+monitor on, no TV, a fan, air conditioner rarely on (only on when outside was like 105+)
Electric cost was about $100-140 a month

Winter $40-80

With 2 roommates (that absolutely must have the house temp at 72F year round, leaves TV, lamp lights, ceiling fan + stand fan on 24/7, and at times kitchen lights+porch lights on)
Summer $280-360
Winter $140-200

in reply to Silenka, you must be living near or at least on the grid to a nuclear power plant to have such low electric prices, its about only thing I can think of, or someones reading the meter wrong.

my dryer kinda sucks so my wife runs it pretty damn often not sure how much i would save in energy if we replaced them with new. otherwise we got 1 new energystar fridge/freezer, decent dishwasher a TV is pretty much always on, 1 PC, 2 PS3s potentially all on at the same time

in western PA, after the fees and stuff we pay about $.15 per kilowatt hour, adding up to about 170$ per month. gas appliances, 2 computers, a tv, a kid that is afraid of the dark, aquarium with lighting, and bunches of other money sucking devices. how you describe your usage i'm going to be you could budget about $75 a month and be very safe, unless you love the ac or try heating water with a space heater or something stupid like that.

Well, I'm pretty certain at this point that my uncle won't be returning to the house.

Assuming, he doesn't owe a lot and it doesn't take a shitload to turn it back on in the first place, after 2 months, finally interested in gettin the power put back on.

have you considered just starting an account in your name? then you will only have to pay a deposit and possibly a small fee to get it turned on. probably 200$ for deposit, but you will get that back when you move and it gets a start on getting a credit history for you.

Just me and the wifey. The utilities bill usually comes out to $180~240 monthly. We usually always have a TV on, pretty much every electronic is plugged in, the heater/AC always running, and we own a pretty huge home. I would assume it would be stupid cheap for you if all you want to do is plug-in your laptop and microwave. This is in CO.

howwwww everyone i know has $500+ electric bills here. i have a friend that regularly has $1k+, granted his house had dick for insulation/weatherproofing, but still.

My parents pay $500-600/mo, but that's with 6 people, 2 fridges, 8ish computers (2 that run 24/7, 4 others that run most of the day), electric stove and heating, several tvs on most of the day, etc. And electric is like $.16/kwh here too.

I lived in Orlando about 8 years ago and my bill was like 70 bucks a month. And quit bitching about AC. Get yourself a couple of cheap fans, set them up around you, and you'll be fine. Makes it much easier to transition from indoors to outside as well.

Wow reading some of the previous posts I can safely say I have it pretty good. Living by myself in a 1BR/Bath apt, working ~50 hours a week so I'm not home during those hours obviously. On average my bill is 30-40 during the Summer, 50-60 during the Winter months. This is in Spokane, WA.

(thats 3 bed room, 1 den, kitchen, living room, 3 people) 24/7 PC,2 tv's and clothes washing every 3-4 days.

Just got my electric bill yesterday. During the winter our bill is approximately $150 for a three bedroom two bath house around 1900 sqft. We have tv, two laptops, two fish tanks, turtle tank, we use one of those oil space heaters in our bedroom and we have animals outside that use heat lamps and water defrosters. During the summer our electric bill drops down to less than $100 sometimes as low as $30 range.

Oh yeah and we live in the Reno area so the temp during the night drops to about 10 degrees F and only gets up to the low 40's during the day.

Extra notes:
1) My wife likes it warmer than I do, so she keeps the place at like... 80ºF in the summer. I get hot, but I also pay the bills, so I just let it go. In the winter, I think she has it at 72~76ºF right now. It's been making me hot, so I'm thinking about turning it down; it wasn't that high last year.
2) Standard computer/TV/microwave/washer use for a couple of nerds (one jobless) plus an outdoor freezer (in the garage).
3) We replaced our A/C unit (and everything else related to it) when it started to fail in July. It cost an arm and a leg, but you can clearly see the savings (heat went up, cost went down).
4) We misjudged our needs in a house (or perhaps overbought in case we have kids, I don't know), but we're currently keeping the doors shut and the vents closed for 3 rooms and 1 bathroom.
5) I have the TXU MarketEdge plan which supposedly fluctuates prices based on the going rate for natural gas. They found a bunch of it not too long ago; the price plummeted, so I picked that plan. I don't pay close attention to how much I'm paying per kWh monthly though.

The Actual price/kWh for December 1st through December 31st with natural gas at $3.364/MMBtu is 9.3¢ per kWh based on 1,000 kWh monthly usage and 8.7¢ per kWh based on 2,000 kWh monthly usage.

Summary: My bill floors at around $50 a month, and FUCK Texas summers. Not displayed is my monthly $10~$50 gas bill (obviously the higher end is in winter). I can provide you with the kWh graph if you want it.
