A lot of people expect a military overthrow, most of the generals don't respect the son

Nominally speaking Kim Jong Il's father (long since dead also) has been the supposed god-ruler of North Korea. Of course here in practical reality land, it requires a living crazy person in power to continue such policies. So it will all come down to what the new person in power decides to do. Will his heir become a new crazy ruler or a enact less strict policies like China? Will he be overthrown by military coup? It will be interesting to find out. Free nations should take advantage of this great opportunity to harshly condemn their disgusting Communism and urge them to consider finally joining the modern free world instead. Their country is a starved slave-pen so they don't have a leg to stand on.

I really don't know what to expect, but living in Seoul right now I'm more than a little scared...

I found out about this after my English class today at an elementary school. I was the first to see the news, via a popup on my iPhone, and the other teachers didn't believe me at first. I showed them a news website I had open (yonhap) and then all of them pulled out their own smartphones (4-5 android phones and 2 iPhones). We talked about the situation all during lunch, but nobody is quite sure what will happen next. I'm now on a bus back to Seoul with 6-8 young men in military uniforms... They're probably just on leave, but still...

MaachaQ, the real question is: Have you been to a booking club and how awesome was it?

As the prophet that I am I watched some N.K. documentary yesterday where they mourned the Glorious Leader.

It looked fake as shit. "Be sad or die on a concentration camp" type of deal.

I bet they're preparing 50k kids for another memorial parade atm.

Anyone who has yet to see it needs to watch the Vice Guide to Travel's docu on their trip to North Korea.

You'll wince, you'll laugh and be disgusted at the same time. It's a crazy spectacle of what happens when an entire country is built upon a tiny man's inferiority complex. Museums of faked gifts given to the Dear Leader from other nations, elaborate pageantry and dancing to hail the great Leader, and every second is as carefully rehearsed and acted out as a play.

Youngest son. And yes he was announced as the successor in some big deal either last year or earlier this year, I forget. The middle son is the one in Macau and from the same mother as Un. The oldest son and the even older daughter, both from different parents than Un and the middle son, I know absolutely nothing about.

Now if it had only happened 1 year and 1 day from now, we'd all be shitting our pants.

More information has emerged concerning his death, I'll try to keep you guys up to date:

Apparently his heart attack was foretold by four wise sages, and was accompanied by a double rainbow straddling an eclipse. It was actually six simultaneous heart attacks, as he was able to fight off the first five in hand-to-hand combat but fell valiantly in battle against the sixth.

A couple of my friends and/or former students in the S.Korean army said they are being moved from the southern part of the country to help secure the area near the DMZ. We talked about it a little bit towards the end of my Korean class this morning, and my teacher said that she feels uneasy because a common concern is that Kim Jung-Un may try to issue an attack order as a way to solidify his position as the new NK ruler. Nearly all of the other 20 or so Korean people that I've talked to about it today have shared the same sentiment. The word of the day seems to be 불안하다 (to be uneasy, anxious).

You're lucky to be living in the south of the country... Seoul has got to be the #1 target if junior really wants to prove himself. It may seem a bit silly, but I'm looking for passports and such right now and beginning to plan in case we need to get out of town fast... My daughter is in Chuncheon at school and my husband's parents are in Wonju; still not terribly safe, but further away from the border if we wanted to spend the holidays there.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be in Seoul or Incheon right now. Unfortunately, if anyone wanted to actually have a war instead of penis waving, Ulsan would be on the top of the list of places to attack first ㅠㅠ
