Diplo, the man behind Major Lazer, is often classified as dubstep. I'm sure there's a better example from his catalogue of what (lol) "true" dubstep is, but tbh I can't pinpoint what makes something sound like what is understood to be dubstep

I think there was a discussion going on simultaneously in general at that time, I'll keep digging, there were some names and acts associated with the genre that people felt was "real" dubstep or what pioneered the name or whatever

the weird thing is it was not at all what I was expecting, given my pre-conceived vague notions of what I thought it was
