In laws I wont know until thursday when my wife gets back into town. She made me make her a list of things I would like for christmas and my birthday (dec 30th), I couldnt think of shit other than an eightarc fight stick I wanted. So I put down some totally random complete bullshit that they wouldnt approve of, forcing them into getting me my fight stick..... I HOPE!

Yeah you're getting something that sucks like a sweater, a CD of shitty music, or some book about some crap you've never been interested in. I have never understood the point of making a list for relatives, they absolutely never get me anything on it save for one or two "easy" things then give me a bunch of crap I would never have any use for.

Now I tell them "Cash or GTFO," that seems to work out.

they wont do cash or giftcards.. has to be an actual gift. well my list only contained four things. fight stick, sound bar for my TV, Jurassic park trilogy (a movie which my wife hates to death) and the dexter 1-5 (a show that she hats that I watch) since I get two of the gifts, one for birthday, one for christmas then I'd say the odds are in my favor. although I could definitely be wrong, will be happy either way. I have the money to buy the fight stick if not.

That's the most frustrating thing about my mom. Regardless of what I tell her, she won't get me anything I actually want that she doesn't fully approve of, which includes any video games, snowboarding gear, motorcycle equipment, skateboards, artwork, because she either doesn't like me doing those things (dangerous) or she thinks they are frivolous regardless of how much I might want it. Her decision is always to get me the boring shit that will only help my business/career/etc. that I am simply too lazy to get for myself. It makes for lots of "ohh... cool... thanks..." moments.

With my mom it isn't so much that she doesn't approve of what I put on my list, just that she doesn't seem to have the slightest clue where to look for things or something. I think she just wants to go to Sears or something and be done, and most things I would ask for would require her to actually set foot in other stores or (gasp) online. Back when I was still dancing, I'd ask for specific items from dancewear catalogs, complete with order numbers, specific colors, sizes, and all, and still end up getting ... fuzzy slippers from an Avon catalog (which my mom used to sell). I could be as detailed about where to get something, how much it costs, how to order it, and everything down to the exact letter and I'd still be left wanting.

Thus, I've given up hope on getting anything I want and just ask for money, which I can then in turn use to buy what I would have put on my list in the first place. At least one year she wised up and bought me a gift certificate to said dancewear supply outlet. :/

I guess I'm lucky to have a "cool" mom. She always gets me great clothing. Knows what style and size I wear and I rarely if ever need to return everything. Not to mention she always goes for what I ask for. (which is never that much) And she improvises pretty damn well. All of my family actually does really well with me, and us with them. Wouldn't trade my family for anything.

Had a great night at my aunt/uncles/cousins. On top of all I received this morning, I got another $50, some awesome spicy variety pack of peanuts, and most importantly a Steel Series Diablo 3 mouse. Thing is boss as fuck.

I am quite sure that you could easily raise a family in the city on $125k a year, just not in Cranberry or places like that.

I got a lot of stuff for the baby from my family and in-laws, but my husband and i were low-key this christmas. We only bought bicycles so we can enjoy the 30-mile long sidewalk that runs the full length of the eastern shore.
