I would definitely tell my parents not to waste their money on crap. Why would i want them to waste money on shit i'm never going to use? That's just silly. Of course, when i say that, it is always "don't buy that shit", not "buy me something else".

I've always just asked for a reasonable amount of things, so i could reasonably expect everything i ask for, but i guess if you go that route, sure. Of course, this ties into my previous point: if you're having someone else spend their money on you, you should make sure they aren't wasting their money. if you ask for 50 things knowing full well they can't afford to buy it all, you leave them guessing which you really want the most. And chances are they won't always guess right. Which the way i see it, is a waste of money. Even worse, it's a waste of someone else's money.

I ask for a lot of things to give them options of what they get me, because I like being surprised. I know damn well they won't buy me everything and that's the whole point. I ask for a bunch of things and they get me things off that list up to a point where they're comfortable spending on me, and they can pass the "leftover" on to other relatives who may have also been shopping for me. (This was obviously back when I was younger.)

Sure I've gotten crap here and there but I also usually end up getting at least a few of the main things I really wanted, along with some things that I "reasonably" wanted. I have always been pleasantly surprised on Christmas by what my family chose to buy me.

I guess it's just a different philosophy.

hehe, it was a student ticket. I've been to every home game and 4 away games so I was pretty much guaranteed to get a ticket, but I wasn't sure if it would be upper or lower level. I was pretty pumped when I saw my friends and I all got lower level. That entire day is going to be insane.

Don't know of many people who got one at UA. Was a grad student selling his for a little over face value. Unfortunately I heard of it too late.

ohhh! I have the same one, I love it! I haven't used the table part, it can be annoying to store if you don't have a good place for it. I lost my english instructions so I don't know how to use the button hole thing. Other than that its awesome, love the way it threads and all the different stitch features!

My circle of friends (6 guys, counting me) started a "tradition" last year of doing Secret Santas. Set a reasonable limit (last year was 30 this year 40) and it limits the money and time you have to spend searching for gifts for everyone. Just buy the gift for the person you get and dont give away who you got. So far we've each gotten the person who got us... both times. so friend A got friend B, B got A. C got D, D got C. E got F, F got E. Both years this has happened. was pretty funny. Anyway last year I got my person a nice Swiss Army pocket knife (he was enlisting at the time, figured it might be one of the few useful things they'd let him carry but not already provide on their own) and he got me a Megablocks Halo kit, the wraith I think. We all had a laugh at that, because Megablocks aren't the same!

This year I got my person (who is a fellow Brony) a Pinkie Pie plush, a Dom Santiago vinyl figure thing (When he and I would play through, I was always Marcus, he was always Dom... and he plays as Dom in multiplayer too. He's mexican irl, you see.), and a small Dinosaur theme Lego kit. He got me a badass nerf gun and Twilight Sparkle's hot air balloon from the opening credits. It lights up and plays music, and came with Twilight Sparkle, Spike, and a telescope. I then proceeded to shoot one of the guys with the nerf gun. Right in the mouth. We laughed so hard I couldn't talk for like 5 minutes. That thing has more power than you'd expect!

Got the Super Star Destroyer, some snowshoes, Skyward Sword, a Wiimote Plus, and Wii Motion Plus to upgrade the Wiimote I already had.

In addition to the loot from my SS group and parents, got a pair of Creeper head soap blocks and a notepaper block with the minecraft stone block printed on the side, 60 days wow game time (saving this for when mists comes out) from my cousin and her husband. Also got a light indoor-hoodie that makes me feel like a more modern Mr. Rodgers, and a little lego keychain dude (larger than the normal figures) who has LEDs in his feet from my aunt and uncle. Press the Lego logo on his chest, the feet light up. He's fully pose-able, though he's out of scale with the rest of the Lego stuff. The lights are very bright, making him a really awesome flashlight. I initially hooked him onto my belt, but the last Lego keychain I bought got scratched up after only a few days of that, so I took him off. Prolly put him in my backpack, so he's with me if I need him, but not getting all scratched up. Aside from the Super Star Destroyer kit, I think he's my coolest gift this year. Because Legos are my first and most favored hobby.
