Maryland Speed cameras

Just got a ticket in the mail today when I got home from Christmas vacation in NY. According to it I was doing 42 in a 30mph zone when a camera set up to catch speeders caught me on the 20th of December. Now, i'm not sure if I was going 42 or if I was going 30mph, or if the area it caught me in I was decelerating to 30mph, hell I don't even know if the area was marked for 30mph where I was caught (I need to go check it out tomorrow, though the ticket doesn't give an exact location)

Anyways, has anyone else gotten one of these? Everything im reading states this is a huge business for MD right now, 77million $ worth, and that 99.9% of judges just assume you are guilty and won't even listen to you, even though I was never pulled over, or served the ticket from a cop.

Anyway around this? I mean, it's only a $40 ticket so i'll pay if I have to, but money is pretty damn tight around the holidays with me working part time and my fiance still trying to find a job.

It'll hit you if you're going 12 or more over. And there's pretty much no getting out of them..even for cops.

They are exact, whatever speed it says you were going, you were going and Judges know it, so they won't let you off. It does say what street it was on but they won't say the exact spot because they don't want you finding them until you get 3 or 4 and as was said, it snaps a pic if you are going 12 or over the limit.

if not you never got it. Also check MD stat law regarding Promise to appear, you never signed the "promise to appear" on a ticket so..
If you show up to court you will end up paying no matter what, however you cannot be found guilty of a crime you werent convicted of. I know for a fact the fines from cameras in CA are completely voluntary.

Just saw these for the first time while driving down New Hampshire towards DC. These cameras are huge, not subtle at all.

Depends dude, some of them look like little trash cans, some look like utility boxes, etc.. ill post a pic of some tomorrow.

And yea, it will catch you if you go over a certain threshhold. I wish i could get something to prevent them from snapping my picture

seriously though, I was talking to a coworker about this shit the other day, I wish i could make some sort of strobe that would blind the shit out of the camera, but it would have to be pointed in the cameras direction so it'd be a hassle.

I almost got caught on 395 the other day, THERE IS NO FUCKING REASON FOR A 4-5 LANE MAJOR HIGHWAY'S SPEEDLIMIT TO BE 40MPH. There is no residential zoning, no where for people to walk, nothing.
Some of the shit is unreasonable, I got hit with one in Gaithersburg the other day, speed limit was 45 then inexplicably dropped to 30 where a camera was, then right back up to 45. The shit is garbage man

Have at least 2 speed cameras near me mainly do to 3 schools around me. But yeah Maryland especially Baltimore rakes in the money from these cameras since no resident knows how to drive, as said above when it snows, shiiiiit, state emergency. I know I've snaped before coming down Wilkens ~.~ .

Speaking of a strobe to blind the cameras Myth Busters did a whole episode of how to beat these cameras, a whole different kind of sprays, different films/plastic over plates. Only thing that did beat it was a drag racer to out speed the camera >.>; .

From my experience of watching this one camera snap one car each time I go walk the dog, it snaps just as you pass.

I know a lot of my moto friends have their licenses' mounted so they're angled 60 degrees down from a traditional setup. None of them get tickets. The cops where I'm from are very lenient for bikers, they seem to get away with out tabs or even license plates, even if they ride 4-7 times a week for years.

After you pass it from the looks of it, it took a picture of the back of the car, took one shot and then another a second later to calculate distance/speed.

You have to be properly served in order to make it valid. But sometimes you can waive this, like showing up at court or paying the fine anyway.

We have vans that they park all over the place with cameras in them too and these little metal boxes they move around, about 4ft tall, looks like 3 metal boxes on each other, thta they also move around. They gauge your speed and then take a pic if you are 10+ over the limit but I have never seen any cameras that take pics at different speeds due to weather, I know none of the ones in my area(Rockville/MoCo) do or I would have a ton more tickets. At first it took 2-3 tickets before I would figure out where a camera was, now I am pretty good about noticing them before hand, even the sneaky ones. Actually haven't been hit in a year or so. They are not voluntary fines, you have to pay them or risk further penalties.

also, if you try to obscure your plate in any way in MD it's a fine.

and the majority of ppl anywhere can't drive for shit, not just MD. DC/VA/NY/MA drivers are just as bad.
