Maryland Speed cameras

I just got tagged by one of these a few weeks ago, got my letter in the mail two days before Christmas, $75 down the drain. I'm pretty certain I was stopped, and just too far up, but I have no way of contesting it, especially since I currently have another ticket to pay for speeding, which wasn't wholly my fault since the light in my speedometer crapped out while I was on the way home.

Also n'th-ing that MD drivers are hideously awful.

Yes, i Work for the MVA now, they make it you can't renew your tags when they expire, I think it follows you from state to state as well, I know we get hits on people's md licenses as well if they got a ticket in another state

In quebec they announce when you're about to hit a camera zone...so everyone drives 100-110, hits the camera zone and drops to 70, then speeds up back to 100-110 when they pass it (km/h, not miles).

As far as getting out of the ticket, good luck, cause its next to impossible.

Really? They have speed cameras now? I understand red light cameras.. but speed cameras are just stupid. Speed limits are guidelines, if everyone on the LIE only drove 55 then driving on it would be a nightmare every single time.

Some of the cameras and limits they set are there just for revenue, same with red light camera stoplight timing tampering, I think it came up in a thread awhile back about a city being caught shortening yellow lights to catch people. Some green light cycles are ridiculously short as well, I was on 197 the other day and the fucking full cycle from red > green > yellow > red was under 4 seconds.... What the fuck?

They are doing this already, but they are making up new school zones and then changing speed limits in well known areas while setting up cameras just to trap people now. So that road you've driven down that's been 40mph all the time suddenly one day is now a 25mph school zone. Bam double fine.

Not to mention my fiances sister said that she got a ticket once for driving through a workzone and having one of these cameras catch her...at 1am...on a Saturday. Who the fuck is in that workzone that you need to slow down.

When school zones exist on the LIE, you come let me know. Regardless, I see nothing wrong with going 50 down the school zone near me when the road is normally 40 and school isn't in session.

I remember when cops used to hide in the bushes at intersections @ Carson, CA to make sure people had seat belts on when the red light came up and they'd run out of the bushes like a masked murderer to give you a ticket

I think all the nav systems over here have this feature. Whenever I ride in a car with someone (don't own a car here, don't need one in the city), the thing speaks to you about how far ahead the camera is and the speed, and the information about your speed and the speed limit at the camera starts flashing on the side of the nav screen until after you've passed it. Red if you're above the limit, green once you're below the limit. There are also posted signs on all the highways about the upcoming cameras and the speed limits, so I'm surprised they catch anyone with them... /shrug

Here in Belgium there have been speed cameras for as long as I can remember. They all have the same, neutral color/shape, but they are exposed and visible, and are often placed at intersections.
