I thought it was just speed camera tickets that were optional, not red light?

LAPD commander Blake Chow says other moving violations are issued directly by a police officer to a driver. But the red light camera tickets are different.
"The court has taken the position that the individual driving is not necessarily the registered owner of the vehicle. The only thing that ever would happen is that citation would go into a file or database in the court, but never reported to the DMV, not going on a credit record," Chow says.

That's an oversimplification of the issues and the fact that the majority of people here think this is the only issue is why the argument is going nowhere.

As I said before, the people arguing against the cameras have yet to actually rebut any point made against them or show any sort of valid way to use face cameras. You are the only person to even comment on my compromise, showing that most of the people here don't actually care about the issue or solving it in a practical way.

Honestly, the government is going to find ways to make revenue and they need to, I find it amazing that so many people just write it off as bullshit. I would rather they use these cameras to generate revenue then increase my taxes even more. That seems to be one of the few arguments against them and it is short-sighted and ridiculous. The other is that people are unwilling to accept responsibility for loaning their car to people who would break the law in it and have yet to give an answer to how to solve the problem of "na-na-na I'm not telling you who it is".

I am curious to know why nobody has made any comment on my proposal though? (other then Salodin) btw, my proposal would not make the tickets optional in any way but give you more penalties if you lied to the court and a viable chance to get out of the ticket if you can show the culprit or prove you don't know them.

or show any sort of valid way to use face cameras.
Install the cameras, and use them exactly like the red light cameras that do the same thing.

But i guess you won't read this, since you obviously ignored the million other times it was said.

As was said a million times, Red Light cameras are not enforced or used properly. This is a pathetic response, as are all of your posts in this thread.

I'm pretty sure I read in this thread that people find ways to evade red light tickets as well, and those do have facial camera.

But you're just going to ignore this, since anyone arguing against these tickets have avoided any type of response to a direct statement/question they cant answer.

    wut

they aren't enforced in many places because they are determined to be unconstitutional, just like I'm arguing the maryland cameras are.

You just want the system to work and don't care if it passes constitutional muster. I get that, it's just not the way things work.

It isn't the responsibility of detractors of an automated revenue collection system to figure out ways to make it work without violating people's rights. We want the current system gone. If proponents of said system can make it work in ways that don't violate people's rights, more power to them. Saying "but if you take reasonable precautions to prevent the innocent from getting fined then the whole system falls apart" then the whole system should fall apart.

Los Angeles did away with its controversial red light camera program this week. It turns out L.A. courts were not following up on the citations
But it turns out that paying this kind of red light ticket in L.A. is essentially voluntary.

my understanding is that isn't state wide

The entire time you've been claiming you'd be fine with facial cameras, now you're saying they're unconstitutional?

How exactly are they unconstitutional? (Hint: There's nothing in the constitution about needing an eye witness)

As it's been stated 100 times, REASONABLE precautions ARE taken. It's NOT reasonable to claim that you do not know who was driving your car or fail identify the actual speeder when compelled to so you can help your case.

and you don't care if people break the law without punishment and don't understand that the government needs to enforce laws in an efficient way and generate revenue. Cameras that in no way enforce the law and are easy to get out of, even if you are guilty, are not a valid solution. Even if the person is guilty of running a red light and their picture is clear, they can still get out of the ticket but who cares, right?

No wonder our political system and judicial system is complete shit. I am amazed though that people are so quick to grab on to a set of rules that are over 200 years old and are perverted in many other fashions, befitting whomever feels it right. The world is nothing like it was 200 years ago, the country needs to grow up, or it will meet it's demise by it's own people. I shouldn't be shocked though since people have been living by the same set of rules and going to war over those rules for 2000 years.

Times change, people change, society changes, apprently rules don't need to though.

They caught me on the highway (It wasn't me)
They even caught me on camera (It wasn't me)

They saw the marks on my license plate (It wasn't me)
Saw me coast through the red (It wasn't me)
Heard the tires screech louder (It wasn't me)
    They caught me all over

Yeah, it looks like it's up to independent municipalities and their county courts. State law allows up to 1 point on a license for a red light camera ticket where the driver's face has been photographed and positively identified.

Generating revenue should never be the purpose, or even a motivating factor, towards fining people or charging them with crimes.

Yes. You have every opportunity to actually put forth a defense. But just like every other crime in real life...if you don't offer a defense, you're going to lose. You would operate the worst law firm ever. "No no trust me just don't say anything and neither will I, they have to prove it!"
