The idea that it's ok they don't know who was driving because the fine isn't that big doesn't fly with me. I get that for some of you, the fact that the fine isn't that big makes it ok that innocents get pinched, it just doesn't work for me.

when they issue a moving violation, it costs much more time to process and issue the infraction since it actually goes on your record. That's why they charge more.

I'd prefer they issued moving violations or none at all, but if they're going to do these tweener smaller fines via robot, they should try to determine who was driving.

If the dude driving your car doesn't pay the fine, then I would consider you at fault for lending your fucking car to some asshat that won't give you the $40 . You really need to stop giving your car to people that are untrustworthy and are not driving safely

the amount of the fine is just one piece the biggest factor in me being able to compartmentalize the two tickets is one goes on your record and one does not.

according to this source the max for a MD speed camera fine is $40 and does not add a point on your record. In parentheses it shows the max amount of a normal speeding violation issued from an officer

speed camera-$40 max.: no points
normal ticket-($500 max. in residential; $1,000 max. in work & school zones; points vary)

of course it doesn't but it would happen. If they have everything they need to prosecute a moving violation (as they would with those cameras), why wouldn't they? More money

if you aren't driving, you're innocent. If you get the ticket for speeding, you are getting pinched.

because like California red light tickets you're being found guilty of a moving violation after being properly identified. maybe some states properly identify you and find you guilty of a moving violation and don't add points to your record but most of us are safely assuming if they added face cameras to the MD speed cameras that they would in fact add points

More money for them? Isn't that the entire point of the speed cameras? Sounds like they should do it anyway, for that reason alone.

yeah i've paid my fair share of speeding tickets and have attended traffic school multiple times.. the amount in which I speed vs the times I have been caught is pretty low. If we were to add millions of cameras state wide that ratio would drastically change, so much so that I would adjust how I drive. I would not adjust how I drive outside specific areas if I got a $40 ticket but guess what none of this has anything to do with your original point that the fines being issued are unjust because they're being issued to the wrong person you've essentially lost that battle and are trying to deflect by changing the subject and it's not going to work
