Internet usage amount

Posting from my phone with no wifi etc so I can't search much. Anyway, just moved to a new.state and setting up internet. There are different plans based on usage amount and I have no idea how much an average person uses. One plan is 3 gigs a month, another 10, and another unlimited. My wife basically does nothing but facebook, news sites etc. I do nothing but messageboards and youtube at the moment but they are offering espn 3 so I might watch some games online. Also there is the possibility of video chatting with the family back home. Would we be likely to go over 3 gigs?

Any normal household, on average, will go over 3GB a month. With streaming and online games, you'll definitely go over 3GB a month. You also have to factor in any kind of download/torrent.

Are those for your home or your phone? Do you live in canada? What are the prices for those plans?

My usage for this month... I was on vacation until December 14th.... I think I teamviewered in to do some grabbing off my seedbox towards the end of my vacation

Barber, if those are the only 3 plans, I'd go with unlimited, especially if you plan on watching ESPN online. That alone would be around 700 MB for an hour of streaming.

Go unlimited, there is nothing worst but to think at the back of your mind that "oh no, I might use all my internet up soon" in the middle of the month.

Indeed, heavy torrent user. Upload seems off because its done offsite from a seedbox and I just FTP movies down to my home.

If you're a Steam user, unlimited is your only option.


My family used to be on 20gb a month, and we'd regularly go over it and hit 40gb, resulting in $20 overage fees. Upgraded to 100gb plan this year which my jew of an ISP finally offered, and we started making use of Netflix. Edging around 80gb monthly usage with that and some game downloads in addition to usual web browsing/Youtubing.
