    Fan Tachometer At Zero

    Having an issue...

    I installed a new VGA cooler, I "assuming" I have everything hooked up correctly.

    The fan spins upon when I control it, however when I monitor it on MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision, the Fan Tach is at 0.

    Also while temps rise during game play, the fans speed moves up however the actual fan does not move any faster unless I do it myself with the controller.

    VGA= EVGA GTX 480
    VGA Cooler= ZalmanVF300F

    Any help please...?

    Where is the fan plugged in at? I think (not certain) that you can only control fan speeds when they're plugged into the motherboard and not just into the power supply.

    I would imagine MSI/EVGA programs are looking for fan info from the GPU itself and as you plugged it into the MB they don't know how to look for it? Would explain why rpm doesn'r change while playing (because the GPU doesn't know that it's fans are plugged into the MB) although I'm not sure what you mean by fan speed moves up but fan doesn't speed up, do you mean that reported fan speed in MSI etc goes up but fan doesn't actually increase?

    EDIT:: Done a bit of reading; it seems that you have to manually set the fan speed (as it comes with an included fan speed controller), so the speed won't be changing as your card gets hotter like it normally would. You might be able to read the rpm using Speedfan or some other program that looks at fans connected to the MB but I don't think you'll be able to get MSI/EVGA and other GPU monitoring apps to
