    Dell Laptop Boot Up Issue

So my computer has been working pretty well and hasn't had any issues. It's about five years old but I've replaced the hard drive and it's run super smooth.

Today it locked up completely as I was watching a streaming feed so i manually shut it down. Now when I boot it up the power light comes on and the caps and scroll lock lights blink for about a minute before it completely shuts off. The screen won't come on at all,

Google has told me its an issue with the CMOS battery or ram issues.

    Advice?

Tried reseating the ram and it didn't work. Should buying new ram work?

I would try purchasing a new CMOS battery first, since the laptop is 5 years old. RAM would likely cost you quite a bit more and isn't likely (imo) to be the problem.

Took it to my dad's and figured out that a RAM slot went bad. Both my ram sticks work, but only in one slot. I figured that'd be fine, I'd just go buy a 2 gig instead of rocking 2 1gigs, but crucial.com says that each port only takes a maximum of 1gig according to Dell.

Looks like I'm saving up for a new laptop

Before the holidays, I was getting Toshiba Laptop emails for 370$ for a new laptop. Pretty decent stats, too. I've loved my Toshiba Satellite since I bought it, it's been an absolute tank for me.

I'm having this exact same issue with my Asus laptop. It froze and I had to force shut it down, then when I went to turn it back on an hour later it lights up on the power up button and then turns off.
