New Rurouni Kenshi Manga Chapters Inbound

Nobuhiro Watsuki To Pen New Rurouni Kenshin Manga Series

    By Ishaan . December 26, 2011 . 4:58pm

Rurouni Kenshin manga-ka, Nobuhiro Watsuki, has put his Embalming manga on hold until next fall. In the meantime, Watsuki will be penning a short Rurouni Kenshin series, set to begin serializing in Jump Square magazine in May 2012.

Anime News Network point out that, while Shueisha are advertising the new Kenshin series as a “reboot,” this may not be the same as the English interpretation of the word.

The Jump Square issue with the new Rurouni Kenshin manga will be published on May 2nd, 2012 in Japan.

Other Rurouni Kenshin projects slated for released next year are the live-action movie (August 25th), and part 2 of the New Kyoto Arc OVA, planned for release in summer 2012.

Not sure how I feel about this..

Then again, wasn't Watsuki unhappy with the direction they took the last OVA? Not the new Kyoto Arc one (which I'd forgotten all about) but the 'ending' so to say.

I would love some Kenshin stories in the timeline of the last few pages of the original series. Yahiko as a teen, Kenshin with a son etc. Hoping for the best!

It was just different from the ending he wrote/envisioned himself, I don't know if he was actually unhappy with it. He expanded on the ending in the Kaden story which was originally in an artbook:

"Kenshin Kaden, released on December 15, 1999 includes the story Haru ni Sakura, which details the fates of all of the Rurouni Kenshin characters. The story takes place years after the manga's conclusion, when Kenshin and Kaoru have married and have a young son, Kenji. Many of the series' major characters who have befriended Kenshin reunite or otherwise reveal their current whereabouts with him in a spring picnic."

Not sure if Seisouhen technically takes place after that story, but I believe Watsuki at least envisioned a happier ending for his characters.

From the wiki article on Reflection

Although Samurai X: Reflection was not written by Watsuki, he stated that he "checked in on the script."[7] Watsuki, unhappy with the result, said that he "didn't have any input in it and the director went wild with it. Kenshin went through so much crap and deserved a happy ending."

Yeah, that's the entry I remember reading. I saw the spring picnic, and figured Seisouhen took place after that (as Kenji, or whatever his son's name is, appears much older than the end of the series).

Pretty much agree with Watsuki's sentiment: The character goes through so much bullshit that him getting a crap ending like that just feels lame (though I can kind of understand why someone would want to do that).

Guy is probably running out of money, everything he's written/drawn since Kenshin has been garbage.

You take Busou Renkin back right now. It's some of the manliest garbage of all time.

i'm sorry, that shit has a fag in a leotard with butterfly mask, and it's not even trying to do it to be ironic or funny

or if it did, it fucking fails at it, horribly

busou renkin fucking sucks, and the only reason it even runs that long is probably because it was riding on the hagaren coattail on the "renkinjutsushi" label

One of my top favorite manga, so part of me is looking forward to this. Especially an older Yahiko and Kenji. The other part really liked the ending and doesn't wanna see this series ruined.

It's been awhile and I'm too lazy to check, but wasn't Kenshin's Hiten Miitsuryugi(sp) already considered useless at the ending, or did he still have a few more years before that kicked in?

^Not at home to check, but IIRC its "mostly" useless by the time he passes the sword on to Yahiko.

Don't worry that's most of the dub cast too.
