I think Ascension is after 1? Isn't the reason the Fury's after Kratos because of his betrayal of Ares?
edit; wiki says its a prequel to the entire series.
andyes, according to wiki, that is the correct order.
He breaks his ties with Ares after finding out he killed his wife and daughter and Ares sends the Furies after him. Ascension picks up 6 months after. Chains of Olympus ends with him standing near the suicide cliff that 1 begins with. In God of War 1 he just decides to fucking kill Ares during that.
I got about 3 hours into it last night and the game feels great. I love how grand they can make things feel. The only thing that bugs me is that the enemies barely flinch when you hit them so they are always closing in on you. Then when they start their 3 second attacks you can't interrupt them easily and they change direction even when you dodge. So you have to sit there spamming block, and after you block one guy someone else is already attacking. I found myself just spamming the grapple move a lot since it makes you invincible while in the throwing or smashing animation.
Yeah it's pretty fun. MP doesn't feel like a check list and it's actually great.
heard a bunch of good things about the game, and i like that its more difficult than past games. Looking forward to picking it up later today
Wow, towards the end it gets ridiculously hard... at least on hard mode.
Spoiler: show
There is a section (chapter26?27?) where you fight a manticore(the thing with the tail that can stun you). If you die to this boss it fucks the game up (in my experience). If you die quit the game and chapter select.... then start over. If you die and continue the game starts glitching out hard.
First the portal gets locked in on after you shine the light into it and its supposed to be showing other stuff.... once you go through the portal to the other side and try to open the door the whole screen messes up. Restarting for checkpoint etc does not work.
Just to avoid some people having frustrations.
Anyone else have issues with the multiplayer? The training mode seems bugged and won't let me go past a certain part or even play multiplayer.
yeah I put the code in and it installed. I should have clarified, at points in the training it will give me the next objective like kill the dude but then his life bar never goes down or I beat him once and I could free play but was never prompted to the next steps.
Is there a New game+ feature and how brutal is hard mode? Wondering if I should start my first playthrough on hard just to get it over with. But if there is a NG+ feature then I might just wait until my 2nd playthrough to make it less painful
NG+ disables trophies afaik. I want to pick this up but the reviews are telling me wait for a price drop, meh.
Well one of the biggest complaints seems to be the Trial or Archmedes(sp?), and the studio posted today that they will be pushing a patch soon to better balance it.
Whats the issue with it...too hard?
I've loved all of the GoW games. Been busy RL last week and this week but I'm really looking forward to trying this one.
I didn't play any of the Dark Souls games, but this is definitely one of the harder things I've faced in a game and I only did it on Normal difficulty. It took me about an hour to figure it out and complete it. I've watched and heard others taking upwards of 3 hours trying to beat it. It sure felt really rewarding once I did beat it.
I beat the game yesterday on normal.
It was certainly tougher as a GoW game. Some of the puzzles towards the end had me scratching my head for a while. One in particular involving Apollo's Light source and a weighted stone. The puzzles were definitely more thought out in this game. I think there were a tad too few, and it slowed down the overall pace of the game, making it longer in a fabricated way.
The combat was pretty solid. I really enjoyed the elemental aspect of the blades, but I found myself using Ares' the most, simply because it charged the meter faster. The others seem underpowered. Though when paired with everything else in NG+, they're fun to use. A big problem with the game I think someone else here had mentioned is the combat. In itself, it's fine, but there's a couple of minor issues. There's not enough "stun" time when you hit foes. Their recovery time is almost instant, and if you don't block or parry, there goes your meter. I realize they're trying to improve players skills by doing this, but a simple adjustment in stun time would make the combat more enjoyable IMO.
I never had an issue with the difficulty in the game itself. The Trial of Archimedes took me 3 fails before I successfully completed it. I got my ass kicked the first time. Once you figure out what you need to do though, it's fairly easy, as long as you're dodging, using magic, using the double, and aoe time magic, combined with context sensitive kills. It really makes you use everything you've gained to beat it. I could see where people are "doing it wrong" and being hard, but those are the casual types who don't realize the devs want them to use all the skills they've acquired to beat the challenge.
Other than that, it was a good game. The story was a bit weak, but for a filler game (they're obviously biding their time for GoW4 on PS4) it was pretty good. It took about 4 hours before the game actually picked up though, and "felt" like a GoW. Something just happened one point and it all felt good. Just started MP last night, and it seems sorta fun. I'm a little disappointed there's no arena mode. Will probably be DLC you have to pay for laterlol
Overall, a good game and would buy again day 1.
Hmm, never mind. Trial of the Gods is already what I was looking for. With 2 people, it's absolutely incredible. The online is so much damn fun.
Seems a little grindy, but it extends the length of it I suppose!
I don't like the time limit of it very much. If it was such a survive x rounds it would be more fun. Can barely get far with pubs though.
Gold box deal of the day $40.

Just ordered it and Disgaea 4 for $58. Gonna be a good summer. I've gotta stop buying games in retail stores, no tax and free shipping is pretty hot.
Played about 2hrs and the frame rate is absolute garbage. Deserving of its poor ratings
