I actually thought that was a terrible call. on that play, brees extended and then brought the ball back on his own, which is like a player running 2 yards and then running back without being contacted. I don't think that deserved forward progress at all

The guy answering questions during NBC's stream of the game (Mike Florio?) said even though Brees willfully brought the ball back, a player is rewarded forward progress until he actually voluntarily runs backward. Sorta dumb I know, but apparently that's how it works. Legs, not arms.
