&various comments wondering why it was destroyed instead of returned: they consider it counterfeit (and consider the seller a crook as a result) and that's what usually happens when counterfeit stuff is found out: it gets killed with fire.

Not defending Paypal, having an antique violin destroyed on the sole claim of a buyer that it's mislabelled is retarded on many levels, just clarifying what must've been their train of thought: "is possibly fake? Paypal (make) smash!"

Paypal is basically an unregulated bank and does whatever the fuck they want. If you have to use it, stick to small transactions, and use a disposable Walmart debit card for funding. I can sympathize, but seriously, this shit is common knowledge.

I had a shitty experience too just last week. Not a huge deal but it sucked... I went to purchase a car part and paid with paypal because I was too lazy to look for my wallet. As soon as I paid for it, paypal automatically opened an "investigation" on my order and thought it was suspicious. They had me confirm a bunch of bs with them and change my passwords, and after I did they still were holding onto my funds for another week. Just today I got it back and the order was just canceled. I didn't lose anything in the end but the whole situation was fucking stupid and unnecessary

It's fun how when you get a refund after paying with PayPal, the money gets silently put back into your PayPal account and not actually back to the account it originated. So you end up with this "PayPal balance" (like a gift card) that you can only pull back out in increments at a time instead of simply getting your money put back where it was. Seriously, never buy more than $100 worth of anything via PayPal. I think the only times I've actually used it was because I was lazy, like the above poster.

I use PayPal to.... um... well once I used it to buy Lego parts from someone in Germany. I think I used it when I bought Humble Indie Bundle 3, but I may not have. Anyway, I rarely use it, and only if for some reason there's no other option. I also never use ebay, so there's that.
