Just finished my first playthrough, fun all the way. Oh, and anyone know where you get Blaster Launchers from?
I ignored the only Battleship I shot down, so I guess it could be from there.
I think that's the only place. I never got to shoot one down. I should have just let them try to find my satellite so I could have shot it down.
Yeah if you clear battleship you find a fusion core, can research fusion lance for firestorm, and fusion launcher for heavies secondary.
phew, beat the game today. in the zone is the most OP shit ever. dual snipers carried me pretty much entire way.
guess i'll try impossible next. how strong are the hero characters?
Hero characters? Is that something you get after you beat the game? I haven't had time to beat it yet <.<
They're basically cheat codes. Name your soldiers after certain game Devs and they become superpowered. Incidentally, they disable acievements for that save file.
Steve Martin
Otto Zander
Sid Meier
Joe Kelly
Ken Levine
Those are 5 i know of.
My best terror mission to date. New game. 2nd month. Only 6 Aliens <_>.
are you doing impossible this time?
My first "playthrough": Classic, Ironman
Days survived: 122
If you know an enemy is behind a corner and zone is too narrow to flank, use explosives.
...I didn't...![]()
Spoiler: show
Operation Cold Grave was a very apt name. Last room on the UFO, expected an ethereal in there, so I had 4 guys enter from 3 different directions at once with a squadsight sniper covering the main door. Everyone died. The people the ethereal decided to mind control were my two 70+ willpower psionics - the only people to have tested positive for psi ability so far, and I can't replace them. Lost 2 good assaults on that mission tooRIP Assmasher, you were the best of us. Apparantly 18/19 aliens killed was a 'Poor' rating.
Rocketman was a bad loss too, he was the sole survivor of the intro mission who later went on to get 7-9 kills with one rocket outside a landed UFO. Was killed on my first encounter with cyberdisks, and only because the Support with the medpack was unable to target him to stabilize for 2 turns, probably some glitch, I dunno.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this remake. The interceptor combat is definately lacking, and the base assault being a one-off scripted event rather than random discoveries are the main let downs. I thought having only 4-6 guys on combat missions was pretty poor at first, but it plays well and you don't have the luxury of protecting your good guys behind a wall of cannon fodder rookies, and picking off aliens from a safe distance. I'm yet to finish the single player though (not played much with psionics on account of them being dead), and haven't tried MP.
Psionics are awesome, I love mind control.
But yeah, it's rare to if d people with psiomic powers. The only people I had was an assault and a support, and both of the were my highest ranking members, so I was lucky.
I beat the game on normal so I've been attempting Classic Ironman to up my game and it's been kicking my butt.
The most frustratingly funny mission I've had is when doing an escort mission. Two of my soldiers panicked and BOTH of them shot the guy they were escorting and killed him for a mission fail.
That has happened to me twice, panic and kill the guy your escorting, if your panicking wouldn't you shoot at something with a gun at least? I beat normal ironman and have been working through classic ironman, start off doing really well, then one mission goes wrong either by bad rolls or a glitch and you lose your squad, and its hard to recover in classic with your best guys dead. Last classic game I was on the first ethereal encounter with one assault and 5 rookies, it went about as well as you would expect, started a new game after that one haha.
waiting to beat this jam on normal and then going classic ironman. i become so attached to my squad members i just dont know what im gonna do when i lose them on ironman![]()
what happens in non iron man? Do they some how survive being killed, or do you just reload a previous save?
